Job summary
:
Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.
Provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.
Job responsibilities:
Reception
Listening skills, accurate note taking.
Greeting patients, face to face and via the telephone
Booking appointments and dealing with telephone queries
Processing the website requests and queries
Contacting patients on behalf of the doctors and passing on information regarding medication or treatment etc.
Occasional chaperone
To have a thorough knowledge of all practice procedures
To work in accordance of written protocols
Maintain confidentiality.
Computer literacy
Process patient information using clinical systems (EMIS, ACCURX)
Process repeat prescription requests in accordance with practice guidelines
Email patient summaries to consultant secretaries or care homes etc.
Other Tasks
Occasionally deal with spillages and
Check stock in GPs rooms.
Ensure building security have thorough knowledge of doors/windows/alarm.
Any other tasks allocated by clinical team or managers.
Online training.
Attend monthly training days.

Health & safety:
The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others health, safety and security as defined in the practice health & safety policy, the practice health & safety manual, and the practice infection control policy and published procedures. This will include:
1. Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines
2. Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks
3. Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills
4. Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards
5. Keeping own work areas and general/patient areas generally clean, assisting in the maintenance of general standards of cleanliness consistent with the scope of the job holders role
6. Undertaking periodic infection control training (minimum annually)
7. Demonstrate due regard for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

19. A good standard of secondary education.
20. At least one years experience of working in a reception environment or with the general public.
21. Excellent communication skills, listening skills, compassion and empathy.

23. Self motivated and organised.
24. Able to ask questions if unsure of anything.
Desirable
25. Knowledge of EMIS or clinical systems
26. Experience of working in a health or care setting
