Description Remarkable people, trusted by clients to design, build and advance the world. Wood have a fantastic opportunity for Structural, Civil or Mechanical engineers to join our Overhead Lines (OHL) Design Engineer Transition Program. You will become part of our Transmission and Distribution UK team gaining valuable development to become an Overhead Lines Engineer in a growing industry sector. The transition program will commence in January 2025. The candidate ideally will be based on completion of the training at either our Glasgow or Horsham offices. However, consideration will be given to candidates throughout the UK to be on a hybrid basis within any of our UK offices providing they are willing to travel as required. LI-Hybrid The Role The current demand for growth in the Transmission and Distribution Sector is unprecedented since the last development of the super grid through the 1950’s and 60’s. The need to ensure the sustainable and secure electrical power in the UK for generations to come. You may have passed by transmission towers and poles with little thought about the development and construction of them. There are teams designing, building and operating this infrastructure that creates a fantastic opportunity. With a wealth of experienced engineers, and a history, of developing designers and technicians for the Transmission and distribution sector, the Transition program is an excellent opportunity for a Design engineer who is looking to expand their experience within a critical and growing sector. You will gain a long-term career within a sector with 25 years of stable work providing energy security for the UK and ensuring the energy transition is possible. Wood has created a 12-week intense development course to support the transition from other engineering sectors to gain the basic design skills for an overhead line engineer to succeed in the Transmission and Distribution sector. From day one you will be contributing to development of the network. Being part of projects to build new transmission lines that will connect the sources of renewable energy to the areas of demand. You will work to enhance existing transmission infrastructure maximising its potential and minimising the need for new construction. Training will be provided from our Horsham offices over a 6-month period. Thereafter, positions will be based between Horsham and Glasgow to suit the candidate and offering a hybrid working option working between home and office within a commutable distance. Accommodation and travel to Horsham will be provided during the initial training period. Our Clients and Projects Designing the future. Transforming the world.
