Job Description:
Binnies, an RSK Group Company, is recruiting a Technical Director to join our Water Services Reservoir Team to help deliver our clients’ dam safety programmes of work. Candidates should have demonstrable technical experience of working on reservoirs at the highest level or be significantly advanced towards All Reservoir Panel Engineer status.
The candidate should have an extensive technical base and strong experience in the appraisal, design, and supervision of dam safety schemes. The primary purpose of the role is to lead and coordinate studies, inspections, and design within the reservoir engineering team ensuring consistent quality and timeliness of output. In addition to providing technical oversight for projects, you would also support our team’s growth by managing and encouraging the development of our engineers and Engineering Managers.
The ability to travel to client offices and project sites on a flexible basis is essential.
Primary Responsibilities
The role is suitable for an experienced Chartered Engineer who has extensive reservoir and dam knowledge. You should be able to demonstrate leadership and the technical knowledge and experience to guide engineering teams and clients in all aspects of reservoir works:
* Provide technical direction to the team and clients.
* Direct the delivery of design stage outputs within agreed timescales and budgets.
* Ensure adequate Technical, Safety, Environmental, and Sustainability reviews for each project.
* Undertake inspections of reservoir assets and produce condition reports.
* Supervise construction work on reservoir assets, monitoring quality, compliance with specifications, and Health & Safety performance.
* Utilize company/client standard designs and design practices wherever possible.
* Agree on design cost budgets and monitor performance against them.
* Record, monitor, and control design changes to maximize cost efficiency.
* Promote buildability and supply chain efficiency in design outputs.
* Lead discussions to ensure a safe working environment for all staff.
* Establish and maintain a positive and solution-oriented approach to work.
* Ensure teams satisfy customer requirements to enhance customer perception and satisfaction.
Client Focused Leadership
* Act as an advocate for clients and a trusted technical advisor.
* Coach client obligations under the Act with senior board members of client organizations.
* Communicate client interests to the wider business and contribute to business line strategy.
* Proactively offer services to meet client challenges and requirements.
* Develop and maintain regular customer contacts for expanding products/services across multiple clients.
Commercial Acumen
* Assist in mentoring engineering team members in managing budgets and project risks.
* Experience in building up costs for engineering deliverables under the NEC suite of contracts.
* Knowledge of programme management using Microsoft Project or similar software.
* Awareness of tools used to monitor project performance and produce accurate cost profiles.
* Consistently applies specialist knowledge and complies with Binnies’ quality programme.
* Drive compliance with Binnies’ quality programme.
* Provide guidance and direction to project teams.
* Encourage continuous improvement and change management efforts.
* Offer quality management guidance to promote a culture conducive to quality.

Educational Attributes
* Bachelor's degree in engineering technology preferred or any other relevant degree or experience.
* Holds an industry-recognized, chartered professional qualification.
* Qualified as or significantly advanced towards becoming an All Reservoirs Panel Engineer.
