People In Power is working with a specialist engineering company that supplies accessories for subsea power cables and umbilicals with a focus on repairing joint systems across all voltage ranges. The Company offers a well-proven and highly reliable factory jointing (splicing) service to medium and HV subsea cable and umbilical manufacturers. The splicing process has applications during long-length cable production, and in the repair of power cables or umbilicals which have been damaged during manufacture. They have a strong and growing presence in the rapidly expanding offshore wind sector and also supply into the offshore oil & gas industry. Job Position Overview – Development and Test Technician The position of Development and Test Technician will report to the Project Engineer and will involve working within the projects and development team to test and develop a range of products for the offshore energy sector. This will include the operation of a wide range of A.C. and D.C. H.V. test equipment and electrical measurement devices and the presentation of results and findings in technical reports for internal or customer requirements. The role will also include a hands-on approach to support our factory jointing (splicing) development and off-site installations. Main Duties & Responsibilities Operation of electrical test equipment and devices. Preparation of HV cables and accessories to facilitate testing. Building test set ups and production of test samples. Material preparation and operation of material test equipment. Inspection & maintenance of the test facility & equipment. Maintaining a high level of site house-keeping presentation and cleanliness. Carry out calibration of test equipment. Ensure compliance with internal standards/QMS and national/international specifications. Documentation and reports associated with development projects. Preparation of Risk Assessments and Method Statements. First aider & Fire marshal Working with permit to work systems as required. Other appropriate tasks as required by the company management. At all times complying with company policies, procedures and instructions. Key Skill Requirements BTEC/HNC or equivalent in an engineering discipline – preferable electrically biased Good first principles engineering capability Engineering problem solving skills and a creative mind set Willingness to learn and develop new design skills Hands-on and can-do attitude Self-motivated team player with the ability to work on your own Ability to meet targets and deadlines Strong written and verbal communication skills Comfortable and capable of liaising with customers and suppliers Full UK driving license Nice to Haves Experience of power cable engineering Experience of power cable accessories Experience of Partial Discharge Testing of cables and accessories Degree/HND or equivalent in an engineering discipline – preferable electrically biased Working Location & Working Hours The role will be based near Rochester – Kent Working hours will be 0900hrs-1700 hrs Monday to Friday If this is a role you are interested in hearing more about then please get in touch with Abigail Young
