Role: Biomedical Scientist - POCT (Point of Care Testing) Site: HCA Laboratories - Shropshire House, 10a Capper St, London WC1E 6JA Hours: 37.5 Hours per week, Monday – Friday Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract-12 Months Salary: Competitive Benefits (pension, health cover, flexible benefits and excellent career development) We are looking for an experienced Biomedical Scientist to work in our Point of Care Testing department (POCT) includes blood and urine testing performed in the clinical setting by patient-facing healthcare professionals, typically nurses and doctors. Common examples of POCT include blood glucose monitoring, warfarin management, urine screening and blood gas analysis. POCT devices are located throughout the HCA Facilities including wards, clinics, operating theatres, community clinics and outreach settings. At HCA UK we care about what you care about. What you will do: Work with the POCT team, colleagues in HCA Laboratories and HCA Facilities to deliver a safe and effective POCT service. Carry out the training and development requirements throughout all aspects of POCT operations and activities. Support to attain and maintain UKAS accreditation of the POCT services, liaising with all organisational departments, to facilitate this essential next step in the delivery of exceptional care. Contribute to the POCT service in line with HCA POCT policy. Be expected to work autonomously, whilst maintaining clear lines of communication and dialogue with the POCT team to ensure delivery of a safe and effective POCT service. Develop and maintain good working relationships with HCA and non-HCA colleagues to promote the effectiveness of the HCA POCT service. Liaise with POCT suppliers regarding significant device failures, training or consumable stock issues. Participate in the delivery of the training programme for POCT. Respond to frequent queries from POCT service users by telephone, email and in person, when needed. Treat all users of the service in an efficient and courteous manner and ensure that all POCT enquiries are logged, reviewed and responded to within an appropriate timeframe. What you will bring: HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist Experience of working in a team Evidence of Continual Personal Development Experience of working within a pathology laboratory setting Understanding of quality assurance procedures and troubleshooting quality failures Some knowledge of verification procedures for laboratory equipment, including production of data and reports Participation of ISO:15189 laboratory accreditation Good planning, organisational and presentation skills. Experience of training of laboratory colleagues Experience of producing laboratory and/or training documentation, such as SOPs, training presentations, incident investigations Why HCA UK?
