Finance Assistant
Do you have experience in an administration, customer service or finance role? Are you able to work well as part of a team and complete multiple tasks efficiently?
About us
The Science Museum Group conserves and exhibits an unparalleled collection of objects that tell the story of our modern world through STEM. Incorporating five museums nationwide, it is important we stay 'out-of-the-red' and the Finance Operations team (a service centre in Manchester serving the whole group) ensures we receive and process payments accurately, allowing us to continue inspiring futures for generations. We also have plans to improve the value we provide to the organisation by increasing the use of automation and technology.
We are now recruiting for a Finance Assistant on a permanent contract working full-time (35 hours per week). This role is based at the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester, with hybrid working also available.
About the role
As a Finance Assistant, your role will focus particularly on our purchase invoice processes, including accurately ensuring all purchase invoices are processed, approved and paid. You will support other areas of finance operations when required and always provide a client-focused service to non-finance colleagues and to the Group's suppliers and customers.
We are looking to make improvements over the coming year to improve the efficiency and control in the process. Therefore, you will be encouraged to actively suggest process and system improvements relating to payables/sales areas.
About you
Joining us you will have a desire to work towards an accounting qualification, or to gain a good foundation knowledge in finance. You will have previous experience in a finance/customer service/administration focused role and will be able to work well as part of a team.
Crucially, you will have the ability to prioritise multiple tasks effectively, with good administration skills and time management, ensuring you can remain organised and complete multiple tasks efficiently and with a good standard of accuracy. You will have good IT skills with the ability to work with data and use a variety of Microsoft Office packages (including Excel).
