With plans to see SP Energy Networks (SPEN), part of the ScottishPower Group, look to invest over £5bn in transmission projects across our transmission network in central and southern Scotland by 2030, the Protection, Control and Monitoring team will play a key role in supporting SPEN to work at pace to deliver the transmission network that is required to support ambitions Scottish and UK Government 2030 targets.
A Senior Project Engineer within Protection, Control and Monitoring ensures the safe and timely delivery of the department work programmes incl. Major Project Installations and Commissioning, Protection Maintenance, Fault investigation/repair and Defect Management.
They take a lead in the statutory obligations of the department by developing solutions and work programmes to carry out repairs and improvements whilst continually maximise productivity through monitoring of work processes and output. Their expertise enables them to understand and be able to work on the full suite and vintage of protection and control systems on the SPT network and the consequent protection interfaces with other power system boundaries.
Furthermore, a Senior Project Engineer assists in the development and education of trainees and continuously develops their own knowledge and experience in all areas of business procedures, system operation, and new technologies for example in Digital Substation Technology.
What you'll be doing
You will be predominantly site based, in an Operational Environment, alongside colleagues and contractors to install and maintain protection and control systems on SPEN's High Voltage network. This will be hands on and involve completing commissioning and/or acceptance testing of new assets.
As a Senior Project Engineer, you will also be:
* Communicating openly (formally and informally) with the Transmission Operations team.
* Maintaining strong working relationships with all departmental interfaces.
* Promoting safety and ensuring that all relevant safety legislation and policy is adhered to.
* Managing customer service to exceed expectations.
* Interfacing with the OCC to optimise system performance.
* Coaching and mentoring trainees.
* Contributing as an effective member of the Transmission Operations management team.
* Assisting in the development and delivery of robust transmission operational training plans.
* Making balanced decisions by considering all available information, consulting with others and anticipate/recognise possible outcomes.
* Management of risk control framework and formulation of risk management strategy.
* Identifying personal resource requirements and feedback into the resource capacity planning.
* Interfacing with stakeholders (internal and external) to ensure effective time management and availability.
What you ll bring
* Engineering qualification (BSc/BEng) leading to Chartered Eng status
* Computer literacy (Microsoft packages, etc)
* Current full UK driving licence
* Previous experience of operational work within a DNO/TNO or relevant experience within a similar company/sector
* Existing knowledge of Power Systems Protection and Control Commissioning and maintenance practices
