Overview
We’re seeking a laboratory scientist to further develop our bioprocess for producing our hemoprotein product, building upon our current biomanufacturing process to prepare it for future scale-up.
Your work will involve a mixture of upstream and downstream optimisation. This includes (but is not limited to) using synthetic biology approaches to engineer improvements to protein function, optimise microbial growth conditions to maximise yield, as well as develop and implement strategies to simplify protein purification.
You will need the ability to balance multiple projects, effectively work collaboratively as well independently, keep precise record, communicate your work effectively with the wider renewfood team, and bring the core principles of scientific rigor to your day-to-day work.
Job Description
Your duties and responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
* Develop and implement research plans aimed at improving the biomanufacturing process for our flavour proteins
* Manage collection and storage of data associated with R&D projects in line with good data management practice
* Coordinate with renewfood’s technical team to support in the achievement of project objectives
* Manage and prioritise workload across multiple projects to successfully meet milestones and deadlines
* Support senior staff and wider team in engaging with external stakeholders
* Deliver project updates and present results via written reports or presentations to update on project statuses and make reccomendations on direction
Conditions of Employment
* Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 per annum (pro-rata)
* Start Date: Rolling applications, start date will be as soon as practicable
* Term: Employment will be on a permenant basis, with an initial 6-month probationary period
* Work Pattern: This post is full-time (35 hours per week), with flexible weekday working between 0700 and 1800
* Annual Leave: 33 days paid holiday per annum (inclusive of public holidays of England and Wales)
* Work Location: Due to the practical nature of the role the majority of the work will be completed in our new lab space in Sheffield city centre, however renewfood is committed to supporting flexible work arrangements including the opportunity to work remotely when appropriate
Criteria for Employment
Essential
* Hold or be close to completing a PhD in a scientific or engineering discipline (or have equivalent experience)
* Proven experience (academically or industrially) in cultivation of bacterial and/or yeast strains
* Proven experience in molecular cloning techniques
* Ability to independently plan and manage research projects
* Ability to communicate experimental data and R&D outcomes to non-experts
* Understnading of handling sensetive and confidential information and maintaining trade secrets
Desirable
* Experience in downstream processing of microbially derived products
* Experience in communicating and reporting to external stakeholders
* Experience in working under and producing documentation within a H&S management system
