About us
Bickham House is located in Bowden, Cheshire. Bickham House was originally the family home of the Bickham family. In 1948 Miss Helen Constance Bickham left the property in her will to trustees for use as a Home for Elderly People or distressed gentle folk. Upon her death, the Home was set up as a care home with charitable status managed by a board of trustees, all of whom are unpaid volunteers. Bickham House continues to operate as a non-profit making charity and residential care home, and all the monies generated are re-invested back into the Home for the benefit of our residents.

Your role
As our Senior Carer, you will report to the Home Manager and be responsible for supporting the management team in all aspects of running the Home. The person in this position will be a role model for the staff, and will lead and train others in all aspects of their work.
Specifically you will:
* Ensure that all care, domestic and kitchen staff contribute to the best of their ability to the efficient running of the Home and the creation of a great atmosphere at Bickham House.
* Assist all our residents with their personal care needs in accordance with best practice and legislative requirements.
* Ensure the healthcare needs of the residents are met including administration of medication, updating of necessary records and liaising with GP’s, District nurses, Chiropodists, etc.
* Work with the Activity Coordinator to promote the mental and physical activities for residents – by talking to them, taking them out and sharing with them in activities such as reading, writing, hobbies and recreations.
* Support the Home Manager in assessing the needs and wishes of residents and in preparing/continuously updating Care plan for residents, new residents and resident reviews monthly /when necessary.
* Assist in the recruitment and training of carers, specifically through inducting and mentoring new recruits and carrying out supervisions, appraisals, observation and spot checks as required.
* Support the Home Manager/Deputy in their duties as the responsible officer for the Home under the Health and Safety Act and the Fire Regulations.
* Work with the Home Manager/Deputy to ensure that all records required to be kept in the Home by the Care Standards Act 2000 and any subsequent relevant legislation are completed in a timely manner, maintained accurately and are up to date.
* Work with the Home Manager/Deputy to ensure the security of residents and the building, locking external doors and windows at a time specified by the Home Manager.
About you
To join us as a Senior Carer, you will need:
* Strong English, numeracy and writing skills – ideally at GCSE (or equivalent) grade 5 or above.
* Ideally a social care qualification such as Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care.
* Strong team leadership skills and an ability to lead the team in the absence of the manager/deputy manager.
* A minimum of 3 years proven experience working as a carer or in a related field.
* Excellent knowledge and understanding of basic care giving techniques, for example moving and handling, using hoists and slings.
* Ability to communicate effectively with our residents and their families.
* Compassion and patience.
* Ability to handle stressful situations with calmness and professionalism.
* Experience and proven competency in the use of digital systems to order medication and update care plans.
* Flexibility as needed to run the home accordingly.
* The right to live and work in the UK.
