Description Are you looking for a role providing crucial support on international justice and law enforcement within and beyond the EU? We have an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and self-motivated individual to join the International Justice Cooperation Unit (IJCU) as a Policy Manager. Currently undergoing reform as part of a wider restructuring, the IJCU sits within the Defence, Security and Cyber Resilience Division. Following the UK’s exit from the EU and the coming into force of the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA), the IJCU provides comprehensive support on international justice and law enforcement issues both with and beyond the EU. These relationships include extradition, mutual legal assistance, police to police cooperation and biometric data exchange. The IJCU seeks to ensure Scottish law enforcement and Scottish prosecutors have the appropriate tools to properly detect and investigate cross-border crime in order to secure justice for victims of those crimes in Scotland, as well as providing advice and analysis to Scottish Ministers and senior officials on policy relating to the TCA and other international justice cooperation measures and tools. Responsibilities Taking a lead role on advice to Ministers on consideration of individual incoming extradition requests, transfer of sentence and prisoner transfer agreements. Leading on advice around mutual legal assistance (MLA), including liaising with the UK Government to reflect Scottish interests in the negotiation of new MLA agreements. Providing policy advice and analysis on wider international criminal justice cooperation, including international biometrics exchanges and inter-agency problem solving. Working closely with a range of key partners including wider SG colleagues, the Crown office and Prosecutor Fiscal Service (COPFS), Police Scotland, UKG, the EU and internationally, including through representing SG at a number of UK-wide working groups and regular meetings. Helping to develop and support the Scottish Government’s approach to international criminal law enforcement and justice cooperation. Supporting the Team Leader to ensure Scottish policies, procedures and practices are understood by UKG during international negotiations on international criminal justice cooperation mechanisms. Supporting the coordination of the SG response to UKG’s treaty negotiations where there are Scottish Justice and Home Affairs (JHA) interests.
