An exciting opportunity is immediately available in our Northey Suite at Epsom Hospital.
If you are an enthusiastic, passionate and highly motivated Band 6 Ward Sister, or a Band 5 Staff Nurse willing to progress in the role, we would love to hear from you!
The Northey Suite is staffed with a highly qualified nursing team, with nurse-to-patient ratios above NHS England guidelines, allowing patients to benefit from high-quality individualised care at all times.
The Northey Suite has a strong management team, directed by a Clinical Matron and supervised by Ward Sisters with extensive knowledge of medicine and surgery, who teach and support the staff in their learning.
The post holder will be instrumental in delivering a high standard of individualised holistic care to medical and surgical patients in a current 7 bed ward.
As a Band 6 Ward Sister, you will perform as a role model and a mentor to junior staff by developing clinical and leadership skills within the team. You will contribute in ward compliance with CQC requirements by closely monitoring staff clinical performance and compliance.
In return, you will be supported by a strong senior nursing leadership and multidisciplinary team, and will be given the opportunity to attend relevant training within your role.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide effective leadership and management in the ward, ensuring consistent delivery of safe and effective, high quality care to our patients.
They will take charge of the ward and support the Clinical Matron in ensuring:
* Appropriate support is provided to staff
* Appraisals are completed yearly
* All staff receive appropriate inductions
* Training needs are identified and provided accordingly
* Ensure staff are compliant with policies and procedures
* Supporting the Clinical Matron in clinical governance activities
Other main duties will include:
* Assess, plan, prioritise and deliver patient care requirements, both physical and psychological
* Ensure high standard of care is delivered in an effective and efficient manner reflecting the values of the organisation
* Enhance the patient experience by addressing any concerns appropriately in a timely manner
* Perform monthly clinical audits, reporting outcome to the Clinical Matron and implementing actions as necessary
* Participate in Staff Recruitment and Retention
* Support the Clinical Matron in implementing quality improvements in the ward

* Registered General Nurse
* Diploma in Nursing
* Post registration course in relevant speciality

Experience

* Good Basic Education.
* Suitable experience preferably in surgery.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
* Knowledge of current clinical and professional issues.
* Understanding of Clinical Audit & Clinical Governance

* Involvement in Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance programmes
Skills
Essential criteria
* Good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
* Computer skills.
* Willingness to develop own practice
