Job Title: Engineering Shift Supervisor
Location: Port of Tilbury
Compensation: Salary - £68,791.01 | Shift allowance - £5817.63
Shifts: 4 on, 4 off (2 days 0600-1800 & 2 nights 1800-0600)

About The Role
We’re looking for a hands-on Engineering Supervisor to lead and support our maintenance team in delivering high standards of safety, reliability, and performance across port operations. Working closely with internal departments and external partners, you'll play a key role in ensuring major assets are maintained efficiently, compliance is upheld, and team performance is aligned with business priorities. This role offers the opportunity to make a real impact, driving continuous improvement and supporting team development in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Your key responsibilities will include:
* Supervise and coordinate engineering staff and contractors across shifts
* Lead and promote a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with health and safety policies
* Manage team performance, development, and conduct regular reviews
* Support workforce planning and address skills gaps through training initiatives
* Oversee day-to-day maintenance operations, ensuring efficient asset repairs and reliability
* Provide clear shift reports and documentation, including incidents and near misses
* Collaborate with procurement to ensure parts availability and stock control
* Build strong working relationships with operations and engineering stakeholders
* Drive continuous improvement and efficiency in engineering processes
* Provide hands-on technical support and leadership where required
What are we looking for?
We’re seeking an experienced and proactive engineering professional with strong leadership skills and a solid background in a heavy industrial environment. You'll be confident managing people and performance, with a strong focus on safety, compliance, and continuous improvement. A hands-on approach, commitment to development, and the ability to work effectively across departments will be key to your success in this role.
Skills and experience required:
* Minimum 4 years’ experience as a qualified engineer/technician in a heavy industrial setting
* Recognised professional apprenticeship and relevant engineering qualifications (HNC level or equivalent)
* IOSH Managing Safely certificate or equivalent
* Recognised people management qualification
* Full UK driving licence and willingness to obtain plant licences
* Experience with port operational equipment and infrastructure (preferred)
* Commitment to ongoing professional development and learning
* Full right to work in the UK
