SAS Rope and Rail Ltd is a leading specialist infrastructure contractor dedicated to providing innovative and sustainable solutions to our clients. We specialise in Rope Access, Vegetation Management, Structural Examinations, Boat & Pontoon, Enabling Works, Ecology, Telecoms, Culvert Jetting, Cladding, Drone Surveys and Core Drilling.
The Boat & Pontoon Operative will be responsible for ensuring the safety of individuals and activities over and around water. This role involves installing pontoons and aluminium scaffolding, operating safety boats, monitoring water-based activities, and providing immediate response in case of emergencies. The operative will work under the guidelines of DEFRA 2 and RYA 2 standards.
Salary: up to £27,000 DOE plus overtime + 30 days holidays + bonus scheme
Job Type: Full time, permanent
Hours: 40 hours per week, flexible to work days, nights and weekends with varying start and finish times.
Location: Nationwide with travel to client sites. Primarily outdoor working on and around water bodies in varying weather conditions.
Role Responsibilities
1. Operate safety boats to monitor and support water-based activities.
2. Deliver and install pontoons and scaffolding.
3. Maintain equipment in its stowage and condition.
4. Ensure compliance with DEFRA 2 and RYA L2 standards.
5. Conduct regular safety checks and maintenance of safety boats and equipment.
6. Provide immediate response and assistance during emergencies.
7. Collaborate with examination framework teams to ensure safety protocols are followed.
8. Assist in the setup and breakdown of water-based examination activities.
9. Maintain accurate records of safety checks, incidents, and maintenance.
10. Communicate effectively with team members to ensure a safe environment.
Qualifications and Experience
1. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in operating safety boats and water-based safety procedures.
2. Certification in DEFRA 2 and RYA Level 2 Powerboat certificate or above.
3. Strong understanding of water safety regulations and protocols.
4. Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
5. Ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations.
6. Physical fitness and ability to work in various weather conditions.
7. NPTC or equivalent Brush cutter, Hedge Trimmer and Chainsaw certificates.
8. Full UK driving License ideally with towing experience.
