For 12 months from 6th August 2025
The Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary seeks to appoint enthusiastic individuals to train and work in the Critical Care Unit. Suitable candidates will have completed their Foundation Programme as a minimum, but no specific Critical Care training is required. This post would suit a junior doctor who wishes to gain Critical Care skills and experience as part of training in any specialty, particularly those planning to enter training in an Acute Specialty.
Position Details: This is a full-time position with up to 48 hours per week available. Applications for part-time work are also welcomed. 8 hours per week will be ‘ring fenced’ for Development time, which may include educational, research, audit, and Quality Improvement activities.
The successful candidates will have daytime sessions in the Critical Care Unit and will participate in the 1:6 resident out of hours rota. There is an Anaesthetic Trainee or a Specialty Dr allocated to the Critical Care unit 24/7 with a high consultant presence ensuring an excellent level of supervision.
The Critical Care Unit is a 17-bed combined Intensive Care and High Dependency unit with 100% single rooms, well-equipped with modern technology including Excel ventilators, Philips monitoring, and ultrasound capabilities.
The Department has a regular commitment to teaching Glasgow students and participates in training programmes for Foundation doctors, including teaching practical skills. Monthly educational meetings and various courses are run in-house.
