My client is seeking a dedicated Housing Applications Officer to join their Housing Needs and Support division. This role is crucial in ensuring that service users have access to affordable housing through the Homesearch bidding scheme. You will be responsible for processing housing applications, verifying documentation, and providing guidance on housing options in line with council policies and housing legislation.
The successful candidate will have experience in processing housing applications for a local authority, who understands the relationship between the decisions they make and that of the Housing Allocations scheme which governs them. You will also need experience in dealing with decisions that require both efficiency and/or application of an allocations scheme.
The role is hybrid and requires office presence 3 x a week.
The Role
1. Assess and register housing applicants, determining eligibility for the Homesearch bidding scheme based on council policies and relevant housing legislation.
2. Provide detailed advice to service users and external agencies on housing priorities and alternatives, ensuring clear guidance aligned with the council's allocations scheme.
3. Work with internal departments to deliver training and support on housing registration processes.
4. Assist in the development of fraud prevention measures, referring cases to relevant authorities when necessary.
5. Maintain and update the housing application database, ensuring accurate records and generating performance reports.
6. Address and resolve enquiries and complaints from the public, agencies, and senior management.
The Ideal Candidate
1. Strong knowledge of housing legislation, local authority lettings schemes, and homelessness duties.
2. Experience with Northgate is essential.
3. Proven experience in administration, data input, and statistical reporting.
4. Experience in delivering services to individuals in housing need.
5. Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
6. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to listen actively and respond to queries sensitively.
7. Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and maintain accurate records.
