We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic speciality grade surgeon.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy general surgical team within a pleasant district general hospital, right in the middle of the beautiful Dorset countryside. The postholder will be required to support the general surgical ward activity, clinics and theatres plus participate in a 1:8 on call rota (split into 12 hour day and night shifts) which includes emergency CEPOD surgery.

The successful candidate would be expected to:
1. Lead initial clinical reviews of emergency and admitted patients.
2. Assist with general surgical and complex colorectal procedures in theatre.
3. Undertake some limited independent surgery, subject to supervised practice.
4. Run clinics under the supervision of the consultant body and potentially independently.
Dorset County Hospital is a local general hospital with 360 beds covering general medicine, general surgery, orthopaedics (including trauma), cardiology, maternity, paediatrics, stroke care, renal and oncology. The hospital serves a population of approximately 350,000 spread across three main population centres and a large area of rural communities.
The hospital prides itself on being a friendly and supportive community for its staff. The responsibilities are subject to regular review with the postholder.
