We're looking for an Engineering Team Manager to join our team based in the Midlands. As an ETM, you'll be responsible for the management of your project management team including planning workload and allocating appropriate resources to oversee the development of the Capital Programme through Stage 1 Options, and Stage 2 Preliminary Design, of the 3D process, as agreed with the Asset Needs Manager. You'll ensure schemes in the programme comply with all aspects of the 3D governance system.
This role will be hybrid working, with a base office location of Nottingham, Birmingham, or Telford.
* Provide leadership, direction, and line management for a team of project managers ensuring timely setting of objectives, performance management reviews and development of appropriate succession.
* Undertake constant review of the Capital Programme to ensure scheme milestones are achieved.
* Collaborate with Engineering colleagues, SDF Contractors, Project Managers, Service Delivery Managers and Route Managers to ensure that regional forward programmes, capital investment and maintenance plans reflect asset needs and considerations, are developed in a way that is compliant with the relevant technical policies and standards.
* Authorise technical work briefs, cost estimates and programmes from Lot 12 SDF Contractors.
* Undertake the assessment of designs, studies, and reports prepared by others.
About you
* A Chartered Engineer with appropriate experience, or an Incorporated Engineer/near Chartered Engineer with extensive relevant experience.
* Investment appraisal and optimisation techniques; value-for-money criteria and financial evaluation methods along with knowledge of sustainability principles and their application.
* Experience in managing a team responsible for preparing Highway design packages for pricing and delivery as well as thorough understanding of relevant technical standards, asset policies and strategies.
* Asset management decision making (capital investment, lifecycle costs, value optimisation, service & availability optimisation, social & economic knowledge) and a good knowledge of CDM 2015.
* Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with a strong customer focus.

External candidates will be offered a starting salary at the lower end of the pay scale, while current employees will be appointed in accordance with our established pay policy.
