Operations Director
Location: Alfreton, Derbyshire – Relocation package available

A large Aerospace Manufacturing company is now looking to recruit a hands-on, strategic Operations Director to join their company.
The company specializes in manufacturing precision machined parts with manufacturing facilities across the UK.
Operations Director – Job Role:
Responsible for delivery of company objectives in terms of Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, and People (SQCDP) within a defined Business Group through the rigorous application of the Company Operating Model (NOM).
Key Accountabilities
General:
* Ensuring the disciplined execution of Daily Management (i.e. SQCDP process) at Tier 2 (Business Group) and Tier 1 (Cell).
* Contributing to the site strategy through the Hoshin Kanri (Strategy Deployment) process and ensuring its execution in the Business Group.
* Take ownership when having to make difficult decisions linked to the Business Group.
* Hold functional support staff accountable for adhering to business standards and enabling their team to meet their targets.
* Leading and developing their team to understand the context, mechanics, and delivery SQCDP targets to meet customer and stakeholder commitments.
* Display activist leadership in Problem Solving using a ‘Go to Gemba’ approach, with the ambition that 98% of issues can be solved within the Business Group itself.
Safety:
* Exemplify a safety-first mindset ensuring the company Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) framework, standards, and policies are adhered to.
* Contributing to the site HSE culture of improving the working environment through maintaining a safe and organized working area (5S).
Quality:
* Ensure Cell Leaders and Team Members follow manufacturing methods and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to maintain product conformance and traceability.
* Ensure Cell Leaders and Team Members perform component quality checks using calibrated measuring equipment.
Cost:
* Manage the allocated Business Group financial budget.
* Ensure assets are maintained with a “brand new forever” mindset through the deployment and adherence to the site Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) system.
* Provide input to Capex projects.
Delivery:
* Daily achievement of the Production Plan.
* Collaboration with colleagues in other departments to support achievement of Customer and Company targets, objectives, and goals.
People:
* Development of first-class Cell Leaders who are readily able to progress to become a future Group Leader or take other roles in the business.
* Be open, honest, and timely when appraising and managing individuals’ performance whilst supporting and coaching the closure of performance gaps.
* Working as part of a team.
Operations Director – Person Requirements:
The ideal candidate MUST come from the Manufacturing Industry as an Operations Director. You will also have the following skills, qualifications, or experience:
* Ideally hold an Engineering qualification such as HNC, HND, BEng, or MBA or similar.
* Experience with implementing Continuous Improvements and LEAN Techniques.
* Experience of Managing P&L, Capex Proposals, Real Time Measuring, and standard hours etc.
* Ideally come from a Precision Machining background, Aerospace, Automotive, Sub-Contract Manufacturing or similar background.
* It is essential that you also have the right mix of having a strategic approach and also a hands-on focus. The site is very old and needs a lot of work updating machinery and systems etc.
