Rate of Pay: £24.00 - £29.97 per Hour
Summary:
The Information Governance Officer will serve as the first point of contact for Freedom of Information (FOI) requests and Data Subject Requests (DSRs) under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The postholder will be responsible for coordinating, processing, and ensuring compliance with legal requirements related to public information requests. Additionally, they will provide guidance and support to staff across Achieving for Children (AfC) on information governance matters, including data protection, records management, and information security.
Responsibilities:
* FOI & Data Subject Requests Handling: Manage and process Freedom of Information (FOI) requests and Data Subject Requests (DSRs) in compliance with GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA). Ensure timely and legally compliant responses, coordinating with internal teams to gather necessary information. Assist with redaction of sensitive data and preparation of public reports.
* Policy & Compliance Support: Support the Information Governance Lead and Data Protection Officer (DPO) in developing and implementing policies and procedures related to data protection, GDPR compliance, and records management. Contribute to the maintenance of information governance frameworks, including retention schedules and the Information Asset Register.
* Stakeholder Engagement & Advice: Provide guidance and training to AfC staff regarding FOI processes, data protection best practices, and compliance with UK data protection law. Act as a trusted advisor on information security, data breaches, and privacy concerns.
* Data Breach Management: Assist in investigating and responding to data breach incidents, working closely with the DPO to assess risks and implement corrective actions. Act as a deputy for the DPO when required.
* Records Management & Reporting: Develop and maintain records management tools, ensuring proper data retention, disposal, and security. Support the preparation of information governance reports, ensuring transparency and accountability in compliance with FOI and public sector information governance standards.
Qualifications:
* Degree or equivalent qualification in Information Governance, Data Protection, Law, or a related field (desirable).
* Professional certification in Data Protection (e.g., CIPP/E, GDPR Practitioner) is a plus.
Experience:
* Experience handling Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, Data Subject Requests (DSRs), and Subject Access Requests (SARs).
* Strong understanding of GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, and UK Information Governance frameworks.
* Experience advising staff on information governance policies and data protection best practices.
* Ability to process confidential information securely, ensuring compliance with records management principles.
