We are looking to recruit an experienced residential housing support worker within an Ofsted registered service supporting 16 -18 years of age LAC - looked after children within the local authority.
The team is growing due to the expansion of the service. We have two placement locations: an 11 bedroom home and a 6 bedroom home located within Stockton-On-Tees.
We support many different individuals and meet the growing demand of working with Young Unaccompanied Asylum Seekers (UASC) in need of housing support. However, we also support challenging youth in need of a safe and secure environment and life guidance, which is an important part of the work. The team is responsible for 17 individuals.
We aim to provide a safe and supportive environment where young people learn, develop independent living skills, discover exciting new ideas and activities, so they ultimately thrive and grow into motivated, positive, resilient, and caring citizens.
What we're looking for in our Youth Housing Support Worker:
* A knowledge of Ofsted requirements and Ofsted registered supported accommodation
* Able to easily relate to young people and the challenges and issues they face
* Understand all safeguarding legislation
* Enjoy taking initiative and enjoy working as part of an innovative team
* Highly professional in your work, with young people, the wider community, partner organisations, and colleagues across the board
* A demonstrable track record of understanding the HMO Sector Policies
* A suitable youth work-related qualification is desirable but not essential
* Experience of working with children and/or young people in similar settings
* Experience of organising and/or coordinating projects is desirable
* Communication skills, with the ability to quickly establish positive relationships with young people and motivate them to participate in Independent living skills activities and events.
* A working understanding of safeguarding children and young people and how to maintain appropriate professional boundaries
* Active commitment to and working understanding of equality and diversity, with the ability to work in culturally diverse communities, and readiness to challenge discriminatory behaviour.
* To be able to support and guide our young people who are struggling with distressed feelings or having trouble coping; a knowledge of the PACE model or trauma-informed support would be desirable.
* Knowledge around child protection and safeguarding to meet the current risks arising in our communities including sexual or criminal exploitation.
Your duties as a Youth Support Worker will include:
* The role will involve promoting independent living skills and updating case records
* Ensuring child protection procedures are followed and that the safeguarding of young people is paramount
* Carry out all duties in accordance with Health and Safety, Safeguarding and Data Protection, and with relevant legislation
* Act as a role model for young people, inspiring them to grow
* Engaging and working in partnership with service users, family members, Police, Health, statutory/voluntary agencies, and others as appropriate.
* Regular key checks
* Money budgeting weekly spends of young person
* Providing written reports as required, including informed recommendations concerning care/action plans.
* Attending meetings and case reviews.
* Updating and ensuring the accuracy of all relevant service user records and taking responsibility for the effective application of information management system.
Skills required:
* We require the candidate to have a knowledge of the Looked After care system
* Current factors influencing drug and crime within the area
