Finatal is working with Third Space, London’s luxury health clubs. Founded in 2001, Third Space has approximately 40,000 members and a 1500 plus team. KSL Capital Partners own the majority share in the business that has thirteen premium health clubs currently, with two more under construction and seven more in the pipeline.
Position Summary
The Financial Controller has full accountability for financial reporting, accounting and all day today financial operations at Third Space. This role will be key to supporting the growth of the business through robust and insightful financial information within a strong governance and controls environment.
What you will be doing
1. End-to-end financial ownership for all Third Space entities, including owning and maintaining the ledgers to a best in class standard.
2. Ownership of all month end processes including AP, payroll, balance sheet reconciliations and month end journal postings.
3. Deliver timely and accurate monthly management accounts including P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash flow and Capex spend analysis with supporting insight on variances to Budget.
4. Production of Club P&Ls, KPI analysis and investment appraisals.
5. Ownership of daily/ weekly trading reports, driving continuous improvement to KPI reporting for existing and newly launched clubs.
6. Managing treasury, working capital and cashflow forecasts with oversight of group liquidity and covenant compliance.
7. Be the key contact for all external stakeholders including auditors, banks, investors, tax and legal advisors.
8. Support and sponsor the implementation and ongoing management of the new finance system, ensuring high quality and robust financial information is delivered.
9. Delivering financials in compliance with all relevant UK and International accounting standards.
10. Develop a thorough understanding of underlying business processes, providing proactive advice on improving them and enhancing profitability.
11. Develop a strong financial control environment with effective finance processes and accounting policies that are documented.
12. Ensure legal and tax compliance is maintained, including VAT, payroll tax and corporation tax.
13. Ownership of an efficient audit process and production of accurate and robust statutory accounts.
14. Carry out company secretarial duties and ensure all filing requirements are met.
15. Lead and develop the management accounts, AP and payroll teams, supporting the individuals to deliver excellence in their respective roles.
16. Establish a credible and respected reputation across the business by developing strong internal and external relationships.
Person specification
1. The individual must be able to operate comfortably at both a strategic level and a hands on ‘get it done’ level.
2. Previous experience as a financial controller in a multi-site business and/or consumer-facing environment.
3. Qualified accountant with an appropriate level of PQE experience.
4. Experience of leading the development and implementation of finance best practice.
5. Building, leading and developing a team with the ability to motivate and develop your direct reports.
6. Strong attention to detail and high numeracy skills.
7. Excellent communication skills with the ability to build rapport and have recommendations accepted by key stakeholders.
8. Self-motivated, enthusiastic team player and contributor.
9. Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills.
