We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Interim Engineering Manager to lead and manage the engineering team at our client's busy food manufacturing site. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing all engineering operations, ensuring minimal downtime, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards. The position is ideal for a hands-on manager with a proven track record in food production environments and the ability to lead a team through a period of transition and change.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead and manage the site engineering team, including maintenance engineers and technicians, ensuring effective performance and development.
2. Oversee all preventative and reactive maintenance across the site, ensuring equipment reliability and minimal downtime.
3. Develop and implement engineering strategies to improve operational efficiency and support production targets.
4. Ensure all engineering activities comply with food safety, quality, health & safety, and regulatory requirements (HACCP, BRC, GMP, etc.).
5. Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing costs, improving plant performance, and enhancing productivity.
6. Ensure effective management of spare parts, tools, and equipment inventory.
7. Liaise with cross-functional teams (production, quality, HSE) to ensure alignment of engineering support with business goals.
8. Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), including maintenance costs, equipment downtime, and team performance.
9. Lead the team through change management processes, including implementing new technologies, systems, and processes.
Key Requirements:
1. Proven experience as an Engineering Manager within a food manufacturing or FMCG environment.
2. Strong knowledge of food production processes, regulatory standards, and maintenance best practices (HACCP, BRC, GMP).
3. Excellent leadership skills with the ability to manage, develop, and motivate teams.
4. Strong project management experience, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
5. Hands-on approach to problem-solving and troubleshooting.
6. Solid understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, process engineering, and automation within a manufacturing environment.
7. Experience with Continuous Improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma) is a plus.
8. Strong communication, organisational, and stakeholder management skills.
Education & Qualifications:
1. Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field) or equivalent experience.
2. Relevant certifications in food safety, health & safety, or engineering (e.g., IOSH, NEBOSH) are advantageous.
Contract Details:
1. Competitive daily rate / salary depending on experience.
2. Minimum of 6 months.
3. Potential for extension or permanent role.
