We are seeking a Caretaker to work at a school in Bury who is hardworking and willing to help in providing a safe and positive learning environment for the students in the school. About the role School Caretaker Bury As the School Caretaker, you will be responsible for the day-to-day upkeep of the school, including general maintenance, site security, and health and safety. Your role will be essential in creating a clean, safe, and pleasant environment for students, staff, and visitors. The role is 37 hours a week, with a flexible shift pattern of a week of 6am-2pm one week and then the next week is 11am-7pm. Occasional evening and weekend work is required. This is to include holidays, not just term time. Key Responsibilites Ensure the school premises are safe and secure, including unlocking/locking gates and buildings, and setting alarms. Perform general maintenance tasks such as minor plumbing, painting, and carpentry, and report any issues that require specialist contractors. Conduct regular checks of the school grounds and buildings to ensure compliance with health and safety standards. Oversee the cleanliness of the school, including some cleaning duties and supervising external cleaning staff where applicable. Assist in keeping outdoor areas, playgrounds, and gardens clean, tidy, and safe. Be available to respond to any urgent issues or emergencies, such as alarms or security breaches. Essential Criteria Previous experience working in a school environment is desirable but not essential. Practical knowledge of site management and general maintenance skills. A good understanding of health and safety regulations. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
