A significant opportunity has arisen for an experienced and capable Operations Director to take up overall responsibility for our large scale Tubes Manufacturing Site in Corby, East Midlands.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join our operations at a time of growth and re-organisation of the site, with significant investments in a new mill and new warehouse to increase tonnage to 300 thousand tonnes per year while leading through a transition from the traditional to a modern, leaner manufacturing site.
As the Operations Director, you will have responsibility for direct reports from Engineering, Manufacturing and technical (while fostering close links with supply chain & commercial) and circa 400 employees on a large 24/5 manufacturing site as well as holding full financial responsibility for the site with a turnover of circa £200 million.
Your key responsibilities and accountabilities will include, but not be limited to the following:
* To develop and embed a Lean Manufacturing / continuous improvement environment, in a complex culture, dealing with objections and a large workforce.
* To develop relationships with Unions to improve employee engagement, resolve challenging issues and effect positive cultural change.
* To take overall responsibility for customer delivery, including direct interaction with customers as required.
* Taking accountability for the setting, management and spend of all budgets within the works area.
* Leading initiatives to maximise the financial performance and the value of all items of spend within the works area.
* Ensuring that CAPEX and revenue schemes are accurate, detailed, justified and prioritised in line with business timelines.
* Effectively managing a challenging maintenance schedule.
* Holding accountability for QHSE strategy and ensuring all relevant and legislative standards are met by the operations.
* Responsibility for all Health, Safety and Environmental matters including responsibility for the management of major accident hazards and major accident prevention within their works area.
* Ensuring that the values, vision and direction of the company are clearly communicated and understood by the personnel within the works area.
* Ensuring that appropriate and effective training and development programmes are in place to encourage organisational and workforce learning.
* Accountability for ensuring that appropriate resources and systems are in place to effectively deploy and manage the competence assurance system.
* Accountability for the annual program to improve process capability, product quality and installation performance.
* Managing the projects and studies according to milestones and budgets as contracted in the annual plan.
* Developing a long-term business plan for the works.
* Taking initiatives to start projects in order to stretch the boundaries of the business.
* Maintains and builds a global external network of similar works organisations.
* Accountable for increasing synergy between all the facilities with respect to operational practice, synergy projects and product mix.
The ideal candidate will lead through strong leadership to mature an interdependent culture in order to achieve operational excellence.
To be considered for this opportunity, you will require:
* Degree-level education in a relevant Engineering or Technical discipline (MBA an advantage)
* Significant experience of successfully implementing and managing change in a complex environment
* Experience of working at Senior Leadership level within a Unionised environment
* Experience of holding full budgetary responsibility for a site with a turnover exceeding £100m
* In depth knowledge of Lean manufacturing/continuous improvement tools & techniques and able to evidence the successful implementation of these
* Able to evidence the ability to deal with complex challenges with positive results
* Experience in Heavy Industry
* Strong Leadership & communication skills
* Courage in decision making and management, with the ability to influence at all levels
* NEBOSH or equivalent H&S qualification
* High levels of energy, drive and resilience
