Pay Rate: £30.77 per hour PAYE
Hours per week: 37 Monday – Friday, normal working hours
This opening assignment is for 3-6 months
City: KIDDERMINSTER
Hybrid working
Undertake inspections of business and domestic premises to ensure compliance with the relevant legislative requirements. Receive, respond to and investigate to complaints relating to industrial, commercial and domestic premises and businesses, identifying unfair trading practices and breaches of a civil or criminal nature with a view to taking remedial action. Carry out enforcement activities in relation to all relevant provisions of regulatory legislation.
Provide advice and education for consumers and businesses within Worcestershire on relevant regulatory legislation and associated civil law. Take appropriate action in respect of non- compliance including (when authorised) the service of formal notice and any other appropriate intervention.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide advice and information to the public and /or businesses on legislation related to Regulatory Services.
Investigate, and carry out monitoring of, complaints and incidents including analysis and interpretation of results, taking statements, executing warrants, gathering evidence, preparing reports for formal action and issuing warnings for minor non-compliances.
To carry out routine inspections of trading premises, land and vehicles and to undertake sampling, seizures, and examinations of goods and services.
Following authorisation by a senior officer, to serve and enforce notices and undertake other legal and informal interventions.
Prepare reports for colleagues and senior officers as requested.
To appear as a witness and give evidence in Court when required.
Where necessary, to facilitate the resolution of disputes between consumers and traders in accordance with Council policy.
Arrange for testing and analysis of samples, and interpretation of results.
Liaise with outside agencies including Environment Agency, Health Protection Agency, Police and HMRC to ensure the protection of consumers and public health.

Qualifications:
Educated to A level or equivalent (minimum)
Foundation Certificate in Consumer Affairs and Trading Standards
A full, valid driving licence or the ability to travel during the course of work
Knowledge:
Practical knowledge of issues and legislation relating to environmental health consumer protection or other as appropriate (desirable)
Knowledge of practices and procedures relating to regulatory services (desirable)
Knowledge of legal process and practice (desirable)
Experience:
Experience of dealing with members of the public
Experience of working within a Regulatory Service (desirable)
Skills & Abilities:
Good communication skills both written and oral
Good basic computer skills including a working knowledge of Word, Excel and use of the internet (desirable)
Report writing skills (desirable)
Able to use appropriate equipment provided for the post
The ability to maintain confidentiality
