As a caretaker in a school, you will hold an enhanced DBS for clearance and have previously worked in a maintenance role, caretaking premises and ensuring all areas are clean, safe, and well maintained. You will be flexible and good with people, with experience supporting schools/businesses for any low-level maintenance on site.
As a school caretaker, you will demonstrate previous hands-on experience in the education sector, having worked with schools, colleges, or universities to support their facilities function. This role is based in Kensington - Liverpool, working Monday to Friday.
Is this you?
1. Maintaining clean, safe, and secure school premises, including building and grounds;
2. Carrying out cleaning, handy person activities, routine maintenance, refurbishment, and minor repairs;
3. Promoting health and safety around the schools;
4. Carrying out porterage duties, such as moving furniture and equipment around the school;
5. Maintaining the general school premises, furniture and fittings, and reporting any issues to the Head Teacher;
6. Carrying out small repairs and DIY projects;
7. Carrying out daily cleaning and ad-hoc duties, such as litter picking and arranging the disposal of waste;
8. Carrying out emergency cleaning duties, such as gritting and cleaning up spillages;
9. Taking responsibility for the maintenance of cleaning tools and products, including arranging replacements.
You will also have an active part in:
1. Maintaining the security of the school premises as the main key holder;
2. Locking and unlocking the premises as required, including out of school hours when necessary;
3. Checking at the end of the school day that all windows, doors, and gates are locked, lights switched off, and gas and electrical appliances are turned off;
4. Providing safe access to the school in cold weather conditions.
We are looking for candidates who hold the following, as this role will involve using your own initiative at times and having a good eye for detail:
1. Previous caretaking experience within a school environment;
2. Previous experience of building maintenance;
3. Previous experience of security including alarm systems;
4. Good knowledge and understanding of health and safety regulations;
5. Basic DIY skills.
As there will be some interaction with students, the successful candidate will be required to pass an enhanced DBS Check. You will hold a friendly and welcoming disposition and be comfortable liaising with staff and children.
