JOB TITLE: Physical Performance Coach – Women’s Team
LOCATION: Chelsea FC Training Ground, Cobham and Stamford Bridge Stadium. Travel as required
CONTRACT: Full-Time, Permanent Role.
The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to be an active and contributing member of the Performance Support Team with a focus on developing the athletic performance of our Women’s 1st team players. The Physical Performance Coach will play a key role in the planning, evaluation and analysis of all elements of training, along with matchday support.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Support and contribute to the Strategic Vision for Performance Sciences/Support Deliver a continually evolving physical performance support program to underpin Chelsea FC Women’s sustainable success.
2. Develop close working relationships and integrate with peers to ensure collaborative, complimentary and cohesive delivery to players, with the aim of players being ‘Ready’ not just available. Proactively contribute to, collaborate with and compliment the Performance support team.
3. Work in an interdisciplinary way with players at the centre of the discussion/design.
4. Contribute to ‘the Chelsea Way’ for “Performance Sciences” Ensuring the delivery of a data driven and evidence based Physical Performance programme Lead on the monitoring & analysis of training load, and response to load, providing direction to relevant stakeholders
5. Plan, collaborate and deliver the on-field athletic development strategy, to prepare and develop robust and high performing players.
6. Lead on the communication and collaboration with international teams surrounding load monitoring, creating seamless handovers during international tournaments and fixtures.
7. Support matchday operation, with travel to home and away fixtures as necessary.
8. Contribute to the planning and delivery of pre-training movement preparation and gym sessions, in collaboration with other PPCs.
9. Contribute to the planning & delivery of recovery strategies and modalities.
10. Enhance team culture, in line with “The Chelsea Way”, to develop a world-leading performance environment.
11. Contribute to the delivery of Chelsea FC’s integrated Individual Development Plans (IDPs): Work in collaboration with other PPC’s, 1st Team Coaches, Performance Analysts, and the entire Performance Support Team to plan, deliver and review training and recovery.
12. Ensure players are consistently and frequently profiled and, all aspects of their performance and development are tracked and regularly reported.
13. Drive club strategy to action profiling measures and create IDP’s that create meaningful impact on player development.
What you will bring to the role:
1. BSc & MSc in related field (E.g. Sport Science, S&C).
2. Professional accreditation from industry recognised associated (E.g. UKSCA, BASES).
3. Previous experience delivering athletic development support in a full-time football environment.
4. Evidence of comprehensive continued professional development.
5. Experience of designing and delivering athletic development frameworks/movement curriculums.
6. Deep understanding of team-sport periodization, and how to embed a performance plan into an elite football environment.
7. Extensive experience in use of technology to monitor athlete load and physical profile (ideally Catapult & Vald products).
8. Innovative and growth mindset.
9. Team player and working with an interdisciplinary mindset, and player focused approach.
10. A cultural architect in creating a high support and high challenge environment.
