Job Role To engage in the regular educational programme held by the Consultants and other medical staff To attend operational departmental meetings To support local trust Clinical Audit and service development programmes. The posts are tailored to individuals career aspirations and aimed at supporting trainees with gain experience relevant to applications for substantive posts in the UK. Trainees will be offered educational supervision, mentorship and annual appraisal. The Isle of Wight NHS Trust operates a partnership model with Portsmouth NHS trusts and University hospitals Southampton. Successful applicants will attend clinical MDTs organised with partners. The trusts will support successful applicants with requests to partners to assist with any specific personal development needs or requests that cannot be fulfilled by clinical experience on the IOW. This could include practical skills training, subspecialty training or research opportunities. Department Information: The department of medicine is based within the Medicine Clinical Business Unit of the Trust. There are currently 4 medical ward areas Colwell Ward (28 beds)Appley Ward (up to 28 beds of which 18 are Respiratory)Stroke Unit (24 beds including 4 HASU beds)Coronary Care Unit (CCU) (6 beds) and Cardiac Step/Acute (12 beds). The Coronary Care Unit provides the cardiac monitoring facilities including the insertion of temporary and permanent pacemakers. In addition to this there is a 24 bedded Medical Assessment and Admissions Unit (MAAU). Most emergency admissions will be admitted to the MAAU first and then triaged to the other ward areas. Consultant ward rounds, led by the Acute Medicine Physicians, take place in the MAAU in the morning and in the early evening. The Coronary Care Unit is adjacent to the Cardiology Department. The unit includes six acute beds, one fully equipped side room and GE Medical central monitoring facilities. There is a dedicated pacing theatre/procedures room, with a Siemens C-arm image intensifier, and an adjacent 12 bed step-down ward. In addition to the above, the Trust has a 6 bed Intensive Care Unit caring for both level 2 and level 3 patients.
