Building Services Technician – Chilled Water and Compressed Air Systems

The Department of Physics is looking to recruit a Building Services Technician in a full-time permanent position.
The Building Services Technician role works within the Physics Building Services Team, which is based in the central function of the department supporting all six sub-departments within the Physics department.
The building services team is a multi-disciplined team of 12 covering a range of specialties. We do maintenance, logistics, compliance monitoring & testing, and office/lab renovations.
The post holder will work closely with our management team and be responsible for:
1. Leading and advising the department in matters of compressed air and process chilled water.
2. Triaging faults and organizing repair on the above systems.
3. Managing the preventative maintenance contracts on the above systems.
4. Altering, extending, or removing these systems as Physics evolves to suit the new purpose of the space.
This role reports to the Deputy Facilities Manager - Senior Electrician for allocation of works, prioritization, planning, and carrying out of tasks, and works closely with the rest of the team. You will have a degree of independence and should be self-sufficient and able to prioritize your own workload to ensure that safety and operationally critical work is carried out to meet deadlines.
The Physics department operates a helpdesk system for reactive and planned maintenance, with planned maintenance managed through a database. This post makes assessments of and provides maintenance on Air Compressors and Process Chilled Water Systems.

About You
The postholder must have significant experience in Water Chillers and related pipework systems and/or Air Compressors and systems delivering compressed air to Laboratories. Ideally, you should be able to modify and install new pipework. You must also have excellent interpersonal skills to deliver customer service excellence, an awareness of relevant health and safety policies, and a flexible approach to work. IT experience on Microsoft packages is also essential.
