Friendly, dynamic Mid Devon GP Practice which is 15 minutes drive North of Exeter.
Due to progression, we have a vacancy for a Practice Nurse. The successful candidate will operate as a member of a team focused on the flexible and holistic care of patients from the local community.
The working pattern is ideally 18.5 hours per week with a fully flexible attendance timetable by negotiation for the right candidate. Benefits include a higher than market rate of pay which is negotiable for the right candidate, pay progression as competencies increase, access to NHS pension scheme, sick pay (after qualifying period) and 208 hrs annual leave (pro rata).
We would encourage Nurses not currently in General Practice to contact us if interested as this is a potential gateway into General Practice. We are happy to train the right candidate to become a qualified GP Practice Nurse over the next 18 months.

Main duties of the job
Part of a clinical team delivering medical services to a rural community. This includes vaccination campaigns, management of chronic conditions, post-surgical treatment, dressings, and assistance in diagnostic processes together with GPs (e.g. blood tests, ECG etc).

Wyndham House Surgery is a small practice with approximately 4000 patients. While only 15 minutes drive to the north of Exeter, its catchment area is largely rural. We very much value continuity of care and patients will often see the same GP and the same nurse throughout their need for healthcare.
The successful candidate will be an integral part of a clinical team consisting of GPs, pharmacist, First Contact physiotherapy and Mental Health workers, together with social prescriber, well-being coach and talking therapy workers.

JOB TITLE: PRACTICE NURSE

Job summary:
The practice nurse will work as part of the primary healthcare team providing Personal Medical Services to the patients of the practice and will engage in the management of chronic diseases as agreed with the Practice Principal.
Job responsibilities:
* Interest and experience in chronic disease management and willing to expand knowledge.
* Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by GPs.
* Cytology.
* Wound care / ulcer care/Doppler.
* Removal of Sutures.
* New Patient Medicals/Urinalysis.
* Travel Clinic.
* ECGs.
* Asthma/Peak Flow Readings/Spirometry.
* Anticoagulant Medication Management.
* Venepuncture.
* Hypertension Management.
* Ear syringing.
* Routine immunizations/Childhood immunisations.
* Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings.
* Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs.
* Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to GPs as appropriate.
Other tasks will include:
* Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs.
* Maintaining GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required.
* Chaperoning and assisting patients who are being examined by another clinician.
* Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms.
* Maintain stock of waiting room leaflets as instructed by partners and Practice Manager.
* Ordering of Health Promotion Literature.
* Ordering of stock from the District Hospital.
* Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels.
* Participation in administrative systems in the Practice.
* At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records.
* A duty to advise GPs or the Practice Manager of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks.
* Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required.
* On occasion there may be a requirement to undertake home visits.
* Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered General Nurse.
* Recognised qualification to diploma level or above.
* A demonstrable commitment to professional development.
Experience
* Experience of working in accordance with the UKCC Code of Professional Conduct and The Scope of Professional Practice.
* Experience in the use of IT in clinical settings or a willingness to be trained in its use.
* Experience of dealing with the public/patients.
* Competent in basic nursing duties required for the post.
* Specific nursing skills / qualifications.
* Able to deliver immunisation and vaccination services.
