This is a fixed term locum post for a highly qualified Benign Upper GI & Emergency Surgeon to join our team on a 3-month fixed term locum basis. The successful candidate will join a team of 4 Upper Gastrointestinal (UGI) surgeons at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital (RBH) site and 4 UGI surgeons at the Poole General Hospital (PGH) site. The post will work across the Royal Bournemouth Hospital (RBH), Poole General Hospital (PGH) and Wimborne Community Hospitals.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities:
1. Participate in a 1:9 General Surgical Consultant non-resident on-call rota at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital site.
2. Provide elective surgical and endoscopy services across three hospital sites: Royal Bournemouth Hospital, Poole General Hospital, and Wimborne Community Hospital.
3. Perform elective operating lists, endoscopy procedures, and outpatient clinics as per the weekly job plan.
4. Proficiently perform laparoscopic cholecystectomy, hernia repairs, and antireflux surgery.
Indicative Weekly Job Plan:
1. All Day Elective Operating List: 1 day per week
2. Theatre Session: Half day per week
3. Endoscopy List: Half day per week
4. Clinic List: Half day per week
5. Supporting Professional Activities (SPA): 1 session per week
Total Activity: 11 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week. (about 3.5 PA 1:9 Emergencies)

Person Specification
Skills
* Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
* Able to speak English as necessary for the role.
* Ability to prioritise workload & show initiative.
* Ability to demonstrate appropriate level of clinical knowledge & when to seek advice.
* Meet the requirements of the GMC's Good Medical Practice.
Clinical Experience
* Entry on the GMC specialist register via CCT (proposed date must be within 6 months), CESR or ECR.
* Trained to manage the undifferentiated general surgical take.
* Appropriate training at StR level for general & UGI surgery.
* Evidence of further training in abdominal wall surgery.
Interpersonal Skills
* Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary team.
Qualifications
* Full GMC registration with a licence to practice.
* FRCS or equivalent.
* JAG accredited endoscopist with an interest in advanced endoscopic procedures.
* Postgraduate thesis.
Clinical Skills
* Can demonstrate skills in general, UGI and emergency surgery.
* Proficiency in laparoscopic cholecystectomy, hernia repairs, and antireflux surgery.
Other
* Participation in audit.
* GCP training.
* Publications.
* Presentations (National/International).
* MMR vaccination status ideally known at the time of application.
