As an experienced Theatre Assistant, you will provide assistance to all members of the Theatre team by supporting the registered staff in activities undertaken in the Operating Theatre environment. You will also contribute as part of the Theatre team to maintain a high standard of cleanliness in Theatre and ancillary areas with special reference to policies specified by the UHB Infection Control Committee and UHB Health and Safety Committee. This includes cleaning theatres between cases and doing a thorough clean on completion of the day’s sessions. As an experienced Theatre Assistant, you will also provide assistance as a circulating member of the Theatre team, e.g., assisting the scrub practitioner and undertaking duties under the direction of the practitioner in charge of the theatre. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply. Prepare the theatre, ensuring daily safety checks are carried out. Ensuring the availability of trolleys, instruments, equipment and sundries prior to and during surgery. Collection and opening of instrument trays, packs etc. as per UHB policy/guidelines. Checking and dispensing of lotions and fluids. Partaking in swab, sharps and instrument counts as per UHB Policy. This includes checking, weighing and recording of swabs, needles and instruments with the scrub Practitioner. Dispensing sterile gloves, tying gowns, assisting with toga dressing. Assisting the scrub Practitioner with collection, labelling, handling of specimens and dispatch for laboratory examination, including frozen sections. Connecting and testing diathermy and suction apparatus (and any other apparatus required in Theatre e.g., headlamps, power tools etc.). Maintaining stock levels in the operating theatre, rotating stock and checking for out of date stock including supplementary instruments.
