The Quality, Risk and Security (QRS) community is an overarching identity for all the professionals who manage quality and risk for Deloitte. It comprises: Deloitte Business Security (DBS), National Quality and Risk Management (NQRM), Quality & Risk Operations (QR Ops), and Service Line Quality and Risk Management teams (including Switzerland) and is led by a dedicated partner who sits on the firm's Executive. Within QRS, we use our skills and experience across a variety of disciplines to support a risk intelligent culture at Deloitte; enabling our partners and practitioners to deliver high quality services to their clients, minimising the administrative burden on our people, and acting as custodians of firm risk, security, ethics, and reputation.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a results driven individual to join the Deloitte QRS Legal and Deloitte Business Security (DBS) Privacy teams.
You will report to the Director and Strategic Lead for Privacy & Confidentiality, working primarily with her, and alongside a small team of privacy lawyers and wider colleagues in DBS and QRS Legal and Quality & Risk Operations in the UK. Deloitte's in-house Data Protection team is responsible for providing Data Protection / Privacy advice and compliance support to the Firm. A dynamic and flexible individual is required to help meet the increasingly high demands placed on this busy, exciting and innovative team.
The role is a unique in-house opportunity blending technical and advisory work as part of an expanding team where you can have exposure to complex privacy issues across the Firm. You will also benefit from ongoing training and structured development in a supportive culture.
Responsibilities
* Reviewing and negotiating contractual data protection terms to support delivery of the firm's diverse range of client services and its internal functions.
* Conducting data protection impact assessments to ensure the firm protects personal data when conducting a broad range of data processing activities.
* Providing data protection advice on internal and client-facing projects in support of the firm's innovation and change agendas, including in relation to generative AI.
* Advising in relation to data incidents, data subject rights and regulatory requests, to help the firm manage its relationships with clients, data subjects and regulators.
* Horizon-scanning and preparation of guidance and training materials, to ensure the firm remains at the leading edge in an environment of fast-paced regulatory change.
* Dealing with cross-border data protection issues, with global clients and across the Deloitte Network.
* Supervising and developing junior members of the team to deepen our data protection expertise and build resilience.
* Working alongside diverse teams including in certain European geographies within an inclusive team culture where people are recognised for their contribution.
Connect to your skills and professional experience
The successful applicant will be a self-starter and quick learner with experience of Data Protection / Privacy (either in-house or in private practice) and a keen interest in developing further expertise in this area. They will have experience in reviewing data protection agreements and clauses and be able to demonstrate the mix of skills and attributes that would enable them to make a real contribution to the Data Privacy team. They will be required to react to a variety of issues as they arise in order to be a successful part of this unique team.
The right person for this role will have:
* A thorough understanding of UK and EU Data Protection legislation, in particular the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), UK GDPR, and Data Protection Act 2018
* Experience of reviewing Data Protection clauses within agreements
* Ability to interpret legislation and develop subject specific guidance /advice
* Ability to undertake research as required and present findings
* Experience of working in a fast-paced business environment
* Experience of working with senior stakeholders
* An ability to work on your own and as part of a team with associated elements of peer review, team work and supervision of junior team members
* Clear and concise communications skills
* Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and work accurately under pressure to meet deadlines
* Qualified Solicitor or equivalent with PQE experience

National Quality and Risk Management
We ensure we manage our business with integrity. This includes developing and managing assurance and business risk frameworks, anti-money laundering, addressing any potential conflicts of interest amongst clients and maintaining our independence from them, ensuring we're compliant and managing the security of our people.
Personal independence
Regulation and controls are standard practice in our industry and Deloitte is no exception. These controls provide important legal protection for both you and the firm. We are subject to a number of audit regulations, one of which requires that certain colleagues abide by specific personal independence constraints (e.g., in relation to any financial interests and employment relationships). This can mean that you and your "Immediate Family Members" are not permitted to hold certain financial interests (shares, funds, bonds etc.) with audit clients of the firm, and also prohibitions on certain employment relationships (e.g., you are not permitted to hold a secondary employment role with SEC audit clients of the firm whilst being employed by the firm).
