Hodmedod is a small but rapidly growing company specialising in sourcing and selling minimally processed whole foods from UK farms - beans, peas, grains and seeds. We're recruiting a People and Place Manager to join our management team, they'll have responsibility for the team and operations in our warehouse, packing rooms and mill house in Suffolk. The ideal candidate will be confident, self-motivated and highly organised, with an understanding of how to manage a team and build a positive, inclusive workplace culture. They will have the ability to multi-task, problem solve and work efficiently, with a desire to give service above and beyond expectations with a can-do attitude. Setting high standards, leading by example and good communication are key to this position. The Role To oversee daily operations, manage the staff team and ensure compliance across Hodmedod’s warehouse, packing rooms and mill house, leading with tact and diplomacy while being a team member. We are a small hands-on business and therefore the successful candidate will be required to step into other roles as and when needed. You will work as part of the management team alongside the company’s directors and the Procurement and Logistics Manager, and in close liaison with our technical and administrative teams. Responsibilities Your duties will include but will not be limited to the following: Manage the warehouse, packing rooms and mill house team, site and operations in compliance with company policies and vision, overseeing receiving, warehousing, blending, milling, packing, distribution and maintenance Manage the warehouse premises, ensuring suitability for operations and addressing any issues promptly in liaison with the landlord Plan work rotas, assign tasks appropriately and appraise results Lead on health & safety, including producing and maintaining risk assessments and method statements, delivering staff training and ensuring compliance Lead on HR duties for the warehouse, packing and milling teams, including recruitment and contracts, training, mentoring and supporting staff, disciplining and appraising staff, ensuring staff welfare and compliance with employment law Implement, improve and maintain effective warehouse processes, procedures and monitoring to ensure efficiency and accuracy Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, suppliers and service providers to understand their needs and provide exceptional service Investigate and address issues or problems that arise Work with the wider management team to develop and implement strategies to improve overall efficiency and customer satisfaction Support the customer service team in handling and resolving customer enquiries, complaints and issues Support the Procurement and Logistics Manager in managing inventory Support the technical team in ensuring adherence to legislative, regulatory and company policy requirements with regards to food hygiene and environmental health What we are looking for Previous experience in a management or supervisory role, preferably in the food industry Knowledge of warehouse management, food handling, food safety standards Strong communication and interpersonal skills Strong leadership and management skills, with a proven ability to motivate and develop teams Initiative, flexibility, adaptability and ability to multi-task Highly organised, with attention to detail and professional drive and purpose Ability to complete work under pressure and to deadlines A hard-working ‘can-do’ attitude with the ability to problem-solve effectively Professional attitude and engagement with suppliers and customers Excellent timekeeping and attendance Proficient in use of software and online tools including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) What we offer Competitive rates of pay based on experience 28 days annual leave (including public holidays) Full sick pay up to 2 weeks per year, half-pay for further 2 weeks after probationary period Paid morning and afternoon tea breaks - and we’ll provide all the tea and coffee you can drink Health and wellbeing benefits through an NHS top-up scheme 30% staff discount on Hodmedod products Cycle to Work scheme Free on-site parking Support to a successful applicant who needs to relocate Note : This job description is intended to provide a general overview of the position.
