Job description
Working as a Targeted Youth Justice Worker, you will be part of a professional multi-agency, providing high quality diversion, early intervention and liaison to address harm factors, and to support young people aged 10 to 17 years to understand trauma experiences, reduce harm and risk and build strategies, skills and resilience for positive pathways in their lives.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Building effective and meaningful relationships with young people, and those in their ecology, through a trauma-informed and systemic lens to recognise needs and deliver interventions and support to address these.
* Designing and delivering programmes of group work, as agreed, for children within the youth justice cohort.
* Helping to deliver the authority’s responsibilities under the Children Act 1989 & 2004 and other relevant legislation with respect to children in need, particularly those in need of protection and those in the care of the authority.
* Providing advice and support to parents and carers which promote the wellbeing of the child and their family.
* Sharing expertise in working with young people and key policy themes; providing the necessary support to other agencies to enhance services for young people.
Requirements:
* A relevant qualification to Diploma level or equivalent, or above (e.g. Youth Work, Social Work, Psychology or Youth Justice)
* Ability to drive and have access to own vehicle; or alternatively have other transport arrangements to locations both in and out of the borough where needed.
* Experience of supporting vulnerable children and young people from a variety of backgrounds and with complex needs, and being an advocate for them.
* Experience of working to and applying safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures.
* Have an understanding of teenage brain development, the impact of childhood trauma and how this may present for young people.
