Role
:-To provide expert guidance on database creation, monitoring and maintenance ensuring database recoverability, integrity, security, availability and performance and to lead the identification, assessment and implementation of new and upgraded database software.
We are looking for a SQL Database Administrator with experience of managing and maintaining a large SQL database estate ensuring HA using Availability Groups and SQL clustering.
Tasks would include routine database maintenance such as backup\recovery, index tuning, patching and database monitoring to ensure that data is accessible, secure, and protected from loss or corruption.
Working closely with both support teams and external suppliers to assist with application upgrades and performance tuning.
Experience using SSAS, SSIS, SSRS and PowerShell along with knowledge of data warehousing and ETL processes would be desirable.
Knowledge and experience with migrating on-premise SQL Server into Azure would be also be advantageous
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Lead by example and behave in line with the Police Code of Ethics ensuring that the force values and behavioural expectations are clearly understood and considered by managers, officers and staff in their decision making and actions; reinforcing and influencing them through all interactions and processes.
2. Provide analysis and direction for Digital Policing support teams on effective database monitoring, management and optimisation and when required assist with the investigation of problems, identifying root causes and wherever possible developing automated solutions
3. Create and maintain up-to-date records of database utilisation and provide detailed documentation of database configurations to help drive down capital and expenditure cost of database provision.
4. Provide expert advice to all members of the Digital Policing Directorate and suppliers regarding the implications of database software upgrades and coordinate upgrade implementation activities.
5. Provide advice on guidance for database security standards by researching and defining those standards, ensuring that all operational procedures adhere to them and that new developments incorporate them. Identify, highlight and communicate database security issues proactively when identified working with Digital Infrastructure resources.
6. Lead and develop on Database project delivery advising on appropriate hardware specification and configuration including disaster recovery provision and provide new solutions detailed documentation to support handover into a production environment.
7. Particpate as an expert resource in system and user testing, tuning databases/applications to ensure optimal performance.
8. Maintain data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act and supporting database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata)
9. Maintain relevant data access permissions and privileges to improve data security and cyber readiness
10. Develop, maintain and manage database and testing back-up and recovery plans and capacity management plans
11. Ensure that Force data is preserved from accidental or malicious loss by ensuring appropriate backups and Disaster recovery plans are maintained and regularly tested.
12. Provide expert input and knowledge on the process of using data to support Business Intelligence and modern Data Analytics to support policing and business activities.
