Role: Stress Engineer
Location: Rugby - full-time on-site
Duration: 12 months initially
Rate: Negotiable
Inside IR35: Umbrella only
Must have or be able to obtain: SC Clearance
Role:
To provide technical solutions in the form of steam turbines and condensers for the purpose of power generation or propulsion. This is done through the execution of design contracts as well as life time management through build, assembly, commissioning and test. Additionally, the department provides technical support to the installed units during outages for service and problem resolution on operational issues.
Essential Responsibilities:
1. Analyse components for strength in line with requirements outlined in contract documentation using FE techniques and hand calculation methods.
2. Analyse components for plastic collapse, buckling, ratcheting, fatigue, rupture, natural frequency, heat transfer.
3. Analyse components for loads from shock and operation.
4. Assist in weld type definition and check for strength and fatigue.
5. Identify deficiencies in design through analysis techniques and propose improvements to features.
6. Analyse features and components for safe lifting during build and installation.
7. As required, analyse non-customer equipment such as pressure test fixtures.
8. Build FE models, write analysis plans.
9. Report writing and presentation material.
10. Design reviews, customer presentations and meetings.
Qualifications/Requirements:
1. Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering.
2. 7 plus years of Analysis of Mechanical Components.
3. Experience in FEA packages, ideally Abaqus and ANSYS.
4. Knowledge of ASME and DNV Codes.
5. Technical knowledge of rotating equipment, turbines preferable.
