The MSK Directorate has a rare secondment opportunity for a progressive and determined individual who is committed to excellence in nursing care to lead our skilled and professional team as Matron for Trauma & Orthopaedics (RSCH & PRH)
The secondment will be over 3 months to cover a period of planned leave by the substantive post holder.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced Band 7 nurse to take their career forward and gain a practical working knowledge of the Matron role in preparation for any future promotion.
You will be supported by the HON and wider directorate and divisional teams throughout the period of the secondment.
To gain the most from the experience you will be expected to have several learning needs identified which can be worked through during the period of the secondment.

Main duties of the job
The Matron will support the RSCH and PRH MSK Head of Nursing in the delivery of key performance targets. They will be accountable for the provision of effective professional nursing leadership and proactive resource management for their clinical area. As an experienced practitioner the post holder will be expected to focus on providing a clean environment for care, ensuring best practice in infection control, improving clinical care standards, and treating patients with dignity and respect alongside service development and transformation.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
·Act as a positive role model through the provision of effective professional leadership and demonstration of competent, accountable clinical practice for their area.
·Provide day-to-day visible (in uniform), accessible and authoritative leadership in clinical areas.
·Ensure the delivery of patient care is of the highest standard.
·Actively support the Division in the provision of high quality, modern, dynamic, and patient centred services in the clinical area.
·Provide support to patients and their relatives/carers.
·Be responsible for optimising patient flow and access through their areas of responsibility.
·Will be responsible for the performance management of Band 7 (ward managers, practice educator and discharge pathway coordinator) and to ensure delivery of healthcare standards and Trust objectives.
·Provide support to the MSK Head of Nursing and deputise for them as required.
·To act as an expert resource in relation to the Division in relation to trauma and orthopaedic nursing.
·To work closely with teams in the Division and other disciplines across the Trust to ensure a seamless clinical service is provided to patients attending acute services.
·To work closely with the operational managers and clinical lead to improve and maximise patient pathways and develop the MSK services.
·To be involved in operational management across MSK and Surgical (Division).
Person specification
Expereince and Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Registered Nurse with UK PIN number
2. Master’s level qualification or equivalent professional knowledge acquired through degree/diploma supplemented by specialist training or equivalent experience to master’s level.
3. Certificate in Teaching and Assessing Clinical Practice (or equivalent) Mentorship
4. Evidence of excellent managerial, leadership and organisational skills Extensive experience at ward manager level or equivalent managerial role
5. Evidence of ability to work across professional teams and organisational boundaries
Desirable criteria
6. Evidence of ongoing professional development at master’s level
