£25,000 pro-rata (£13.74 per hour)

Purpose of the role:
● To cover all responsibilities of the Family Care Team
● Deliver personalised holistic care and support to families in the newborn care unit, in collaboration with the team
● Provide support to NCU staff when needed
● Promote and support SSNAP services
Responsibilities and duties:
● Provide emotional support to NCU families through active listening with a caring, compassionate, non-judgmental approach
● Offer practical support to NCU families
● Refer families with additional support needs to appropriate internal hospital professionals (psychology, chaplaincy, multi-disciplinary or local community outreach and support services)
● Communicate with the Family Care Team members and psychology staff to ensure continuity of care including attending monthly team meetings
● Liaise with other health care professionals in supporting the family
● Provide support to families during coffee mornings, daily snacks, and any planned activities or events organised by SSNAP or the NCU team
● Support SSNAP Family Care Team volunteers during their visits to the NCU
● Encourage continued liaison with parents after discharge
● Represent SSNAP when engaging with external stakeholders
● Provide office administration support as needed; sharing office responsibilities within a small team
● Demonstrate a commitment to CPD training needs to effectively fulfill the FCT role
● Attend supportive supervision sessions with the family care lead & psychology team
● Attend working/training groups to promote the development of services
● Support unit research as requested
● Adhere to OUH Trust & SSNAP policies
Person Specification: Experience & Skills
Essential:
● Availability to work a minimum of 15 hours per week, with the option of additional hours
● Availability to work a minimum of 3 weekend days a month (Sat or Sun)
● A sincere appreciation for people and a strong desire to help promote the wellbeing of NCU families
● A genuineness to support parents' needs with a 'caring, compassionate, nurturing approach'
● Strong communication skills, with the ability to listen without judgment and demonstrate patience
● Confidence in communicating with parents, carers, and health professionals at all levels
● Previous experience in a stressful and emotional environment - demonstrating patience and composure in distressing situations
● The ability to prioritise tasks effectively
● Adaptability to work independently and as part of a team
● Reliability
Desirable:
● Practical knowledge of diversity and cultural issues affecting families with the ability to assess needs and respond to these needs
● Good organisational and time management skills
● Understanding and/or experience of what it means to have a baby requiring neonatal care
● A willingness to learn and develop personally
● Content to work flexible hours whilst meeting unit needs
