Leggett & Platt a 140-year-old global, diversified manufacturing business specialising in bedding technologies is exclusively partnering with Hays to recruit it’s next Managing Director.
The newly appointed MD will be accountable for the UK operation, will have multi-site responsibility and report into the Business Unit President International Bedding. The role is based in Barnsley with travel to the Barnoldswick site as necessary.
A dynamic, ambitious, and well-established manufacturer with a turnover of approximately £60 million. The company is well known for product quality and commitment to continuous improvement, in addition to serving the most well-established sector leading players in the industry.
As MD you will work closely with the Senior Management team to drive efficiencies and volumes, ensuring the highest standards of production, quality, safety, and customer service are always delivered.
People are the core of this successful business therefore driving a high-performance culture is also a fundamental part of this role.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Management: Oversee a headcount of around 300 employees with direct reports of approximately 6 senior leadership team (SLT) members.
Growth Plans: Develop and implement strategic growth plans through cost control, operational and manufacturing efficiencies, and commercial strategy to drive the company’s expansion and market presence. Spearhead initiatives to expand the business and increase revenue.
Operational Excellence: Drive continuous improvement, lean methodologies, operational and manufacturing excellence across all sites. Optimise processes, improve efficiency, control costs, and prioritise sustainability, while maintaining high standards of operational efficiency and manufacturing quality.
Succession Planning & Mentoring: Foster a culture of leadership and development, mentoring senior leaders and planning for future leadership needs. Develop and mentor the next generation of leaders within the company.
Commercial Strategy: Drive commercial strategies to enhance profitability and market share, leveraging a strong understanding of market dynamics and business acumen.
Experience and Qualifications:
Degree qualified in a relevant discipline such as Operations, Commercial, Engineering and/or Finance.
A track record of working at an executive level, ideally as MD, COO, or similar for an organisation of relevant size and turnover.
Demonstrable experience of improving operational efficiencies and business growth.
Strong commercial acumen with a track record of driving business growth.
Excellent leadership and mentoring skills.
Ability to manage multi-site operations effectively.
Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to problem-solving.
Knowledge and experience of Sales & Operational Planning (S&OP) would be beneficial.
