The opportunity
Lloyd's Register is recruiting for a Senior/ Lead Corrosion Engineer to join our Materials Team within the Global Offshore Technical Support Office (TSO). This team has extensive expertise and experience in Materials, Welding and Fabrication, and, along with the other discipline teams within the TSO, has a proven track record of providing independent assurance for the design, procurement, construction and operation of upstream oil and gas and offshore wind assets.
The TSO has teams specialising in Materials, Geotechnical, Subsea & Wellheads, Piping and Pressure systems, Mechanical equipment, Structures, Electrical & Instrumentation and Fire & Safety.
We are based mainly in Aberdeen, UK but operate globally across the Global Technical Support offices and the wider LR organisation, including the Global Projects Team, Field Survey Group, Marine Materials department and corporate technical functions.
What you'll do
The role will primarily involve the appraisal of cathodic protection designs, coatings, material selection and corrosion control for Offshore projects.
A smaller part of the role includes the following activities:
1. Assessment of technical queries
2. Technical support to LR Surveyors
3. Maintenance and development of LR Rules and guidance documents
4. Internal research and technology projects in emerging technologies such as hydrogen, CCUS and ammonia
5. Representing LR on committees and at conferences
What you’ll need
This role requires specialist knowledge and experience in corrosion protection, science and engineering and their application in the Offshore industry. Preference will be given to applicants with a strong background in cathodic protection system design.
There are specific requirements, namely:
6. A degree or equivalent tertiary qualification in corrosion or corrosion-related subject
7. Competency in cathodic protection design, coatings and materials selection
8. Experience in the Offshore industry
9. Working knowledge of applicable offshore design codes and standards
10. Recognised industry training, qualifications and experience in cathodic protection system design (e.g. AMPP CP3, ISO 15257 level 3 or higher) and in coatings (AMPP, ICorr) (preferred)
11. Competency in onshore ICCP (preferred)
You will need to be driven and adaptable and be able to use your in-depth understanding and your professional experience to assess technical queries and novel problems. You will be motivated to explore and learn but also have the attention to detail to follow codes, standards and processes, and contribute to their development. A high level of proficiency in the English language, the ability to work and communicate effectively with colleagues across the organisation, to be responsive to urgent requests for technical advice, and to work in a team of specialists in related disciplines and with clients to identify and resolve technical issues will be required to succeed in this role.
