MacIntyre is a leading national charity shaping inclusive and welcoming neighbourhoods where people with learning disabilities and autistic people are able to contribute, connect and lead gloriously ordinary lives.
You will be working as a support worker at our registered home in Great Holm, Milton Keynes supporting people with learning disabilities and/or autism. We are looking for support workers for full or part time positions on a rota basis and you must be a driver with a UK manual licence.
This MacIntyre home is across 16 flats on one site. Each flat has between one and four residents and you will work as part of a team making sure support is kept fresh, creative and genuinely person-centred.
We asked some of the residents what they like about living here and they said:
“I like living here because I see my friends and girlfriend regularly and I like my flat”.
“I like the staff, they look after me but I also get to live independently in my flat. I like to see my friends and going to the cinema with staff”.
“I like the parties and barbecues that everyone has”.
You need to be enthusiastic, willing and come up with fun and exciting activities whilst being patient and an eager learner. Also, you need to be encouraging, reassuring and clear while communicating.
We will provide you with full training and day-to-day help and advice from your frontline manager and senior support workers.
With an ageing population there is now an emphasis on health, so some knowledge on health conditions such as dementia, Parkinson’s or epilepsy is helpful but not essential. What is important is that you can help them get the right support when needed and advocate on their behalf.
This is a wonderful opportunity to make a positive difference to someone’s life, where no two days are the same!
