Junior Maintenance Technician - Full-time, Permanent position
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne.
Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor / Senior Maintenance Technician
Department: Maintenance / Engineering
Hours: Mon - Thurs: 07:00 - 16:45
Rate of Pay: Up to £15.98ph PAYE
Pension: Emp Match up to 6%
Production bonus: Up to £360 per quarter (performance related).
Job Purpose:
The Junior Maintenance Technician is responsible for assisting in the routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of machinery, equipment, and systems across various plant or facility areas. This is an entry-level role designed for individuals looking to develop their skills in a technical maintenance environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Routine Maintenance & Inspections:
Perform scheduled inspections and preventive maintenance tasks on equipment to ensure optimal performance.
Assist in cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn-out parts on machinery.
Follow maintenance schedules and checklists to ensure tasks are completed on time.
2. Fault Diagnosis & Repairs:
Assist senior technicians in diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues with equipment.
Carry out basic troubleshooting and repairs under supervision.
Record and report any identified issues that require further attention.
3. Tool & Equipment Usage:
Operate basic hand tools, power tools, and other maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
Maintain and keep tools and equipment in good working condition.
4. Safety & Compliance:
Follow health and safety protocols while performing tasks.
Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and company safety standards.
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
5. Documentation & Reporting:
Keep accurate records of maintenance tasks performed, including time, materials, and any observations made during inspections.
Report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or potential improvements to senior technicians or supervisors.
6. Learning & Development:
Participate in training programs and actively learn from experienced technicians to develop technical skills.
Stay up-to-date with new tools, techniques, and technologies in the maintenance field.
7. Team Support:
Work closely with other team members to ensure the timely and efficient completion of tasks.
Provide assistance to senior technicians on more complex maintenance tasks as required.
Skills & Qualifications:
Previous experience apprentice trained or in a technical, mechanical, or maintenance role.
A relevant qualification such as a NVQ, BTEC, or City & Guilds in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or related field.
Familiarity with general maintenance tasks in an industrial or commercial setting.
Forklift, First Aid, or other basic certification is a plus.
Basic knowledge or interest in mechanical, electrical, or electronic systems.
Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and general workshop equipment.
Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn.
Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision.
Good communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
Basic understanding of health and safety procedures.
