We are responsible for manufacturing 22 tactical missile tube assemblies as part of the common missile compartment (CMC) project for the UK Successor and US Ohio Class replacement submarine programmes. This highly specialised, internationally significant work is part of the second phase of the project at Rosyth and places Babcock as a critical supplier of missile tube assemblies, utilising our core skills and expertise delivering part of a programme to support the future deterrent submarines for both the UK and US Navies.
The role
As a Welder, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. If you can bring technical skills and a safe working attitude, then we can provide you with one of the most exciting engineering projects this country has to offer.
Day-to-day, you will safely perform welding and welding related tasks in a production environment supporting the Successor Project.
Key Tasks and Activities:
1. Follow standard operating procedures in the safe set up and operation of welding plant
2. Carry out welding tasks in accordance with the essential variables
3. Visual inspection of completed welds to contract acceptance standards and project requirements
4. Maintain welding plant functionality
5. Carry out daily machine checks, ensuring that any fault is reported immediately
6. Continually improve processes where required
7. Safely set up and remove any pre-heating equipment
8. Use of digital and thermal temperature recording devices
9. Control of welding consumables tiles in production environments
The role covers but not limited to:
10. SMAW process
11. GMAW-P process
12. GTAW process
13. SAW process
14. Arc Air Gouging
15. Grinding/Burning
16. Basic Visual Inspection
17. Control of welding consumables
This role full-time and is based onsite at Rosyth. You will follow the working time shift pattern, including days and nights, and this will include an additional shift premium. We are happy to discuss this in more detail.
Essential experience of the Welder:
18. Indentured Welder
19. An understanding of weld defects and causes
20. Perform set up procedures for all welding equipment and accessories to be used on projects
21. Experience with pulsed MIG is ideal or MIG and TIG.

Please note that this position is subject to national security vetting. The successful candidate will be a Sole UK National, who holds, or is able to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements (this will include obtaining SC security clearance and satisfying ITAR and PSA).
