About the Role.
Join us as Interim Chief People Officer (CPO), to cover a period of maternity leave, where you will lead PA Media Group’s people strategy, champion our culture, and support our greatest asset—our people.
As a member of the executive team, the CPO will oversee all aspects of the human resources department, including talent acquisition, onboarding, employee development, retention, legal compliance, benefits, and compensation, as well as diversity and inclusion initiatives.
The interim CPO will partner closely with the Executive and Senior Leadership Teams to develop people strategies that align with the group’s long-term goals. This includes assessing future skills, competencies, and the impact of evolving technologies and trends.
Additionally, the CPO will lead the Comms function, driving cross-group collaboration and streamlining efforts, while considering the diverse needs of the business areas.
This role is pivotal to the ongoing success of our people strategies, offering you the opportunity to make a tangible impact on both the business and our 1,000-strong workforce.
Key Responsibilities.
* Strategic Leadership: Partner with the CEO and executive team to develop initiatives that enhance employee engagement, optimise organisational design, and align with business objectives.
* Talent Management: Oversee recruitment, development, and retention strategies, with career paths and succession planning to ensure leadership and employee growth.
* Culture and Engagement: Champion a positive culture by embedding company values and working closely with an employee forum to foster engagement and amplify employee voices.
* Diversity and Inclusion: Lead diversity and inclusion initiatives, integrating them into all people management practices.
* Performance Management: Implement performance management systems that drive high performance and align with company goals.
* Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure HR policies meet legal requirements and manage employment-related risks.
* HR Operations: Streamline operations through technology, processes, and data analytics to support decision-making and key metrics.
* Organisational Design: Partner with senior leaders to ensure efficient structures aligned with company objectives and lead people integration for acquisitions.
* Third-Party Stakeholders: Manage relationships with external suppliers to ensure smooth delivery of HR services, including vendor selection, negotiation, and contract management.
* ESG Strategy Development: Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive ESG strategy aligned with the group’s values and business goals.

About You.
To be successful in this role, you will be a strong collaborative and inspiring leader, with a high level of credibility in your field. You will have experience handling sensitive and confidential information and will role model the Company values.
You will also need:
* Proven record of excellence in leadership roles
* Exceptional stakeholder management at C suite level
* Significant experience working in unionised environments (within adjacent industries)
* Organisation design – the ability to design and implement workplace structures
* Experience creating and communicating a clear and compelling people strategy
* Analytical and problem-solving approach, able to review people metrics and make data driven decisions.
* Adaptability and flexibility – The ability to adapt to changing circumstances and challenges in fast moving business environments.
* Regulatory and compliance knowledge - up-to-date knowledge of employment laws and regulations to ensure the organisation complies with all legal obligations and to mitigate risks.
* Ability to build trust and confidence quickly
* Strong presentation skills and confidence managing meetings and presentations at the most senior levels.
