Switchboard Operator - Band 2
Do you want to be part of a small but busy team?
Our switchboard operators handle calls from the public and staff 24 hours a day, seven days a week and work hard to ensure all calls are handled with compassion, dignity and professionalism on what can be quite often a caller's first point of contact with the hospital.
The team is part of the estates and facilities division in the Hospital, and part of the Logistics group under Facilities. Facilities covers all those jobs going on in the background under pinning the hospital service as a whole.
We are looking for a friendly, self-motivated individuals who enjoy variety in their work. You must be a people person and enjoys helping people, and be able to deal with challenging situations - whether it is putting a call out for the crash team to respond, or helping someone to access a car park barrier. You will be representing the Trust as first point of contact, and it's important to us that you can remain cool, calm and collected no matter what comes through on your next call.
Full, part time and regular casual roles are available throughout seven days a week, with shifts covering 24 hours a day.

Main duties of the job
The job is varied, there's never a dull moment! It's not just about being a switchboard operator handling call enquiries - as a member of the switchboard team you will:o Handle emergency calls and call specialist response teams to respond to emergencies in the hospitalo Replace and process broken bleeps, put test call outs to response teams on bleeps, manage updating the message bleeps system and log incidents and actionso Complete and update on-call rotas for clinical teamso Help update and maintain the hospital telephone directoryo Action fire system alerts and call the right teams to the right place.
