We are looking for a Transport Supervisor for our client based in Ashford paying £38,000 per annum.
Hours:
Monday to Friday.
06.00 - 14.30hrs with flexibility when required.
The role:
Responsible for overseeing daily transportation operations including driver management, vehicle scheduling and management of the Transport Office, to include the Transport Scheduler and Transport Co-ordinator. Ensure continual compliance with transport laws and regulations, ensure that all vehicles are meticulously maintained, and all service and repair schedules are adhered to.
The Transport Supervisor will work closely with the Depot Manager to monitor transport costs, maximise fleet efficiency, and achieve exemplary delivery performance, whist ensuring that all staff training is up to date.
Responsibilities
Supervision and support of Transport Scheduler and Transport Co-ordinator
Provide efficient and effective scheduling and planning of all deliveries and installations
Make optimum use of vehicles and crews and office staff
Cover training, holiday and sickness for Transport Scheduler and Transport Coordinator
Ensure that a sufficient number of crew are trained to the correct levels
Maintain the skills matrix and training records
Monitor and manage the Booking of third-party staff and vehicles
Raise and issue purchase orders
Manage the day-to-day relationship with partners and subcontractors
Monitor quality and performance or partners and subcontractors
Notify Operations Coordinators of any issues that arise
Be available on-call via mobile phone on a rota basis, to deal with vehicle and staff issues
Liaise with warehouse to ensure sufficient resources for vehicles loading and unloading
Liaise with Installation Manager for allocating crews and vehicles on large installations
Manage the return of PODs, job paperwork and timesheets
Ensure all transport office responsibilities are completed daily
Managing all department supplier costs
Monitor, manage and update Transport KPI’s
Support and attend Internal/External department audits
Book vehicles in for regular maintenance and corrective repairs, ensuring the dates are not missed
Action any vehicle defect reports following the standard process
Ensure all vehicle maintenance is conducted and update database
Deal with any vehicle breakdowns and issues
Managing fuel use and issue fuel cards
Maintain breakdown and support cover for all vehicles
Manage driver behaviour and performance
Manage office staff and delivery drivers to include Quality, Communication, Training, PDP, RTW and performance management
Complete driver briefings/debriefs and Tool box talks
Conduct new staff interviews, inductions and training plans
Manage the process for parking tickets and congestion charges, investigate circumstances and take relevant action, contest / pay / staff to pay
Issue petty cash and night-out money as required, and complete night-out forms
Record all holidays in the diary, approve and update absence
Ensure staff comply with all Driving and Working regulations for hours e.g. Working Time Directive
Escalate any issues to the Depot Manager as required
Review processes and systems and suggest improvements
Key Skills and Experience
International CPC Holder (preferred)
Two or more years’ experience as a Transport manager (preferred)
Experience of managing staff and HGV Vehicles
Good people management skills
Good team member who can also work on own initiative
A flexible and can-do attitude
Driving licence (HGV preferred)
