What You’ll Do:
The General Manager of Operations is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing the operational functions of food/dietary supplement manufacturing, and Logistics. This position serves as the strategic partner to the COO, ensuring health & safety and food safety standards are met/exceeded, driving operations excellence, quality and the effective implementation of operational strategies. The General Manager of Operations will drive cross-functional collaboration, lead process improvement and innovation initiatives, and cultivate a high-performance culture across all operational areas.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Leadership:
* Operational Strategy Development: Collaborate with the COO to formulate and execute comprehensive operational manufacturing and logistics strategies that aligns with the company’s goals and objectives.
* Goal Setting and Alignment: Establish clear operational goals and objectives, ensuring alignment with the overall business strategy and performance metrics.
2. Operational Oversight:
* Department Management: Oversee the management of the Production and Logistics departments, ensuring operational plans are executed effectively and efficiently.
* KPI Monitoring: Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for each operational area, utilising dashboards and reporting tools to track performance and identify trends.
3. Process Improvement:
* Lean and Six Sigma Initiatives: Lead continuous improvement initiatives utilising Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to identify inefficiencies, eliminate waste, and enhance quality.
* Cross-Functional Process Optimization: Facilitate workshops and brainstorming sessions to foster innovative solutions and best practices across departments.
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration:
* Liaison Role: Serve as the primary liaison between the COO, operational management teams, and key cross-functional leaders (i.e Sales, CS, New Product Development (NPD), Procurement) facilitating effective communication and collaboration on strategic initiatives.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with senior leaders in Commercial, Procurement, CS, Finance, Tech, HR, and other departments to ensure operational needs and challenges are addressed holistically.
5. Customer Experience Focus:
* Customer-Centric Initiatives: Champion initiatives aimed at improving the customer experience, leveraging customer feedback and data to inform service enhancements.
* Service Level Agreements (SLAs): Establish and monitor SLAs for Operational performance, ensuring adherence to productivity and quality standards.
6. Team Development and Leadership:
* Mentorship and Coaching: Provide mentorship and coaching to departmental leaders, fostering a culture of leadership development and accountability.
* Performance Management: Implement performance management systems to evaluate employee performance, drive engagement, and promote professional growth.
7. Budgeting and Resource Management:
* Budget Development: Collaborate with the finance team to develop and manage operational budgets, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and financial targets.
* Resource Allocation: Optimise resource allocation across departments, identifying opportunities for cost savings and efficiency gains.
8. Risk Management and Compliance:
* Operational Risk Assessment: Identify potential operational risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure compliance with industry regulations and company policies.
* Crisis Management: Develop and implement crisis management plans for operational disruptions, ensuring business continuity and resilience.
Qualifications:
* Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Engineering, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree strongly preferred.
* Experience: Extensive experience in operations management, with a proven track record in Production, Logistics, and Customer Service environments.
* Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive operational improvements in a dynamic environment.
* Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills, with proficiency in performance metrics and operational analytics.
* Communication Skills: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with stakeholders at all levels and fostering a collaborative work environment.
* Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with ERP systems, data analytics tools, and quality management software.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Certifications: Six Sigma Black Belt, Lean Certification, or equivalent operational excellence certifications.
* Industry Knowledge: Experience in, manufacturing, retail, logistics, with a deep understanding of relevant operational challenges and best practices.
* Change Management Expertise: Proven experience in managing change initiatives and leading teams through transitions effectively.
