Five Acre Wood is a successful, outward looking and expanding District Special School based over 3 sites in and around Maidstone, Kent. We currently have over 750 pupils on roll aged 2-19 years with profound, severe and complex needs.
We are currently looking to recruit an enthusiastic, hard-working Higher Level Teaching Assistant to effectively lead and manage pupils in the absence of a class teacher and support the development of Senior Teaching Assistants and Teaching Assistants.
1. Contribute towards individual pupil outcomes and strategies.
2. Observe, monitor and record the progress of pupils both using the appropriate format as advised by the class teacher including pupil learning, behaviour management, wellbeing, child protection etc. (including liaising with therapists) as directed in order to support the teacher deliver the specific learning programmes set for each child.
3. Make materials for teachers or pupils use as directed by the class teacher
4. Contribute to and implement structured learning activities/teaching programmes and support pupils to access learning under the guidance of the class teacher.
5. Contribute to pupil reports and other reports as necessary.
6. Administer routine tests (if appropriate) and undertake routine marking/moderation as directed maintaining records as requested in order to allow the class teacher to concentrate on other activities requiring their professional input
7. In negotiation with SLT/Class teacher have a maximum teaching commitment of 0.6
8. Stand in for the class teacher when necessary.
9. Manage classroom activities safely ensuring that the physical learning space and the resources in it are conducive to pupil learning.
10. Make materials for teachers or pupils use as directed by the class teacher

The role is term time only, working 35 hours per week, the hours will be 8am – 3.30pm. The working hours are non-negotiable.
FTE salary for the post is £26,515-£28,850 excluding a SEN allowance. SEN allowance would be £1441.72 per annum. This is the full time equivalent and therefore will be pro rata.
