Insight Surgery helps surgeons plan the most complex surgeries. For the past 8 years we have been designing and manufacturing cutting edge patient-specific medical devices including anatomical models, surgical cutting guides and complex custom implants for a variety of clients including the NHS and leading medical device manufacturers. We are currently undergoing a growth phase in the UK using our unique Point of Care service model. There is an opportunity for a suitably qualified biomedical engineer to join the business at this exciting stage of our company journey. We have also recently opened a new facility in the Texas Medical Center and are looking to expand to further USA locations in the near future. This role will directly report to Insight Surgery's Head of Engineering in the UK.
Junior Bio-medical Engineer
Responsibilities
1. Using Enterprise level medical segmentation software to extrapolate patient scan data into 3D models for real-world clinical cases
2. Collaborate with clinicians and surgeons to design and implement custom-made medical devices for patients
3. 3D Printing of medical devices to a high standard using a variety of technologies in different materials, post-processing, finishing and inspecting outputs
4. Working on a variety of diverse design and manufacturing projects as and when required that can range from 1 month to 1 year
5. Carrying out and complying with the design, manufacturing and quality processes within a hub facility to maintain the continuous improvement of Insight Surgery's ISO 13485:2016 certified Quality Management System
6. Regular maintenance and calibration of the facilities 3D printers
7. Liaising with our Sales Team, including developing new business opportunities within the Hub hospital and surrounding hospitals / regions
8. Attending surgery for your cases to assist surgeons
9. Quarterly attendance at an all-company workshop day
Experience/qualifications/ skills
Mandatory
1. The applicant must have a degree in Bio-medical Engineering or similar related discipline
2. Demonstratable industry experience in a biomedical engineering or other related medical engineering roles
3. Good experience in using enterprise level medical segmentation software applications, with previous exposure to patient-specific device design or manufacture
4. Good knowledge and/or experience in the design of patient-specific surgical guides
5. A good knowledge of human anatomy and / or surgical procedures related to orthopaedics and oncology disciplines
6. Ability to discuss real-world patient cases with surgeons, design and recommend solutions
Preferred / Advantageous
1. 3D CAD design experience related to medical devices
2. Experience with Simpleware Medical ScanIP software
3. Experience with Materialise Mimic's software
4. Experience with 3D System's Freeform software or similar freeform 3D design applications
5. Knowledge of working with a Quality Management System such as ISO 13485
6. Understanding / working knowledge of anatomy
7. An understanding and/or experience with working with 3D printers / technologies covering FDM, SLA, SLS and Polyjet
8. Excellent project management and communication skills
9. Experience in developing surgical simulation solutions / phantoms
Location
The role will initially be based at our Innovation Hub facility within the Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool. This role will involve some travel around the region to visit clients / Insight Surgery offices and industry events and conferences.

Working hours & Holidays
Core working hours are 9AM - 6PM, Monday to Friday. Potential to work from home 1 day a week. 21 days per year holiday allowance + UK public holidays.
